@ShabanaMir1 TBH many PhD candidates and recent grads don’t realize how crazy the faculty hiring process is. As a current hiring committee chair: it’s wild out there. Many of the decisions made have nothing to do with merit. If folks knew, some would dream differently.
@AmazonHelp This link leads to a login and a regular customer service chat, which (as you might see above) I already went through. It was less than useless yesterday. You’re suggesting I should start over today and do the same again?
Chatting with @amazon customer service is such a dystopian experience… random reps across the globe can access my account info but refuse to identify themselves, while telling me no one can contact the so-called “account protection” team that cancelled my order /1
What was I trying to do, you might ask, to trigger account security issues? Just trying to order some @amazon gift cards for research incentives, to be sent to myself… but clearly, I should just go elsewhere.
The last rep, who only identifies as “Silvia Maria O. In Costa Rica” claims she has no supervisor, no employee ID, and cannot give me her last name, either. It’s a secret. But she also can’t solve my problem. “Someone will look into it,” she says, I am the last point of contact”/
@Jeff_Nowak Every week, I listen to Moore’s post-game. His answers are all exactly the same generic stuff. He never has anything substantive to say. Then I listen to the Broncos post-game presser just to remind myself what a knowledgeable coach sounds like…
@JayinKyiv This says power is out due to equipment disruption, and expected to be reinstated in an hour. I know they often lie to their own people, but would be more credible if someone actually showed the act of taking out the grid.
@EvidenceProf@Undisclosedpod I’d love to hear more about her post conviction efforts. It seems like the case got lots of media attention (for better or worse!) but if the post conviction filings have been described fully on Undisclosed, they seem woefully inadequate…
@SpencerHakimian Because (1) the federal government allows kids to borrow the costs and charges interest, (2) unlike most nations in the developed world, our governments aren’t expected to fully fund public post-secondary education.
All over the country, spectacular young soon-to-be attorneys are starting their public defense careers. Folks - shut out the noise. Show up, work hard, argue till you’re hoarse, embarrass some cops, nurture yourself, and free all the fucking people you can. Nothing else matters.
#MSY is functioning like a third-world country airport today. Yes, more than usual. Authorities have blocked off all parking lots except economy (~20mins away, with a disastrous shuttle service)… Half the bathrooms at the terminal are inoperable… just embarrassing.
@JaredRDmello Yes, I also find that so strange!! The weirdest thing is people walking only to discover that they’re actually NOT done yet (e.g., because they don’t defend or submit the final dissertation on time).
@Peterkraska I think this is a new flavor of an old problem. Realistically, someone who is motivated to cheat can always find a way. The answer is the same, though. We need to understand who is motivated to cheat and why, and develop solutions that tackle that.
