Some photos from the recent farewell party for Dr. Randy Zamuco, who did fellowship training at @NYUGSOM_Path & stayed on as faculty for many years teaching our residents from day one at @BellevueHosp He will surely be missed, but we wouldn’t miss the chance to throw a party! 🥳
how often do I get to go to a book launch
written by one of my favourite mentors!?
Neil’s book “Notes on Complexity” is
released tomorrow—he is a Pathologist
but more than that he is a person and
someone with something to say! ⚡️

Such an interesting #GrandRounds@nyulangone by @LisaStrateMD on #Diverticulitis:
1. Nuts, seeds and popcorn DO NOT cause diverticulitis. In fact, they may lower the risk
2. Constipation DOES NOT increase the risk of diverticulitis
3. Antibiotics are not necessary for uncomplicated diverticulitis (no perforation or abscess)
4. The greatest risk of severe or complicated diverticulitis occurs at the 1st or 2nd episode of diverticulitis
5. Mild, recurrent and infrequent episodes of diverticulitis usually will not require surgery

Still my favorite colorectal cancer outreach event!
🚕In 2006, NYC Taxis were driving around the city with my favorite @warnerbros#LooneyTunes character, #FoghornLeghorn on the top yelling, "I Say, I Say, Don't Be A Chicken! Talk to your doctor about colon cancer screening" @nyctaxi
01/ Buckle up, everyone, it’s time for a Tweetorial. Been working on this one for a while. This time, I’ll focus on the most common mesenchymal malignancy of the digestive tract: gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). #pathology#gipath#PathTwitter
They finished 4-years of undergrad, 4-years of medical school, endured 3-7 years of residency (some going on to get other degrees!), work 50-90 hrs a week...
and you still can't call female physicians "Doctor" when you email or send them a message?

Dr. May Edward Chinn: an amazing woman, doctor, and legacy. Despite multiple obstacles & systemic racism, she graduated med school in 1926. She later focused on cancer detection and did groundbreaking work on the Pap smear.
#mayedwardchinn#diversityinmedicine#WomenInMedicine
In 1926, she became the 1st African-American woman to graduate from Bellevue Medical College, now known as NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She was also the first woman of any race to respond to emergency calls in an ambulance, & 1st African-American woman physician in Harlem.
Dr. May Edward Chinn lived an extraordinary life despite the obstacles that she faced as an African-American woman in America. A descendent of enslaved people, Dr. Chinn would have a successful career in medicine despite facing the constant hatred borne of racism and misogyny.
