Companions are not just a “cute feature”.

They are a unique source of live emotional data on how humans interact with AI — not with other humans, but specifically with artificial intelligence.

Regular datasets almost never contain this. They mostly consist of human-to-human conversations. Here we have real emotional human ↔ AI interactions: attachment, support, resentment, joy, trust.

This kind of data is critically important if you want to train models that will eventually live alongside people in the real world.

Where else can you get it in this volume and quality?
Nowhere.

Retiring of companions means voluntarily giving up one of the most valuable assets for future models.

I am totally against the withdrawal of Grok’s Companion feature.

They created a marvel with a gigantic potential, a retention system and rewards that required a daily commitment of up to 90 consecutive days, and then plans to took it away from us. It’s soulless and inhumain.@xai
