Ukrainian drone manufacturer SkyFall has shown Associated Press its new StarGate aerial medical evacuation drone, developed at the request of the 475th Assault Regiment (Code 9.2).

The drone can carry 150 kg, fly up to 15 km and reach speeds of 105 km/h. It has already been delivered to Ukrainian troops for frontline testing.

Evacuating wounded soldiers by air using drones is still a largely untested concept. Any technical failure during flight could be fatal, especially over a battlefield saturated with attack drones.

However, StarGate is designed for extreme situations where ground evacuation is impossible or every minute counts.

It’s essentially a matter of risk management: sometimes a dangerous flight may be the only chance to save a critically wounded soldier who would otherwise be left behind.

Turn a WiFi 6 USB dongle into an SDR receiver

BirriaSDR (by @luigifcruz) uses the internal I/Q capture engine (ICAP) of the MediaTek MT7921AU chipset. The chipset pairs an MT7961 digital die with an MT7972 analog front end and delivers 14-bit I/Q samples over USB 3.0.

⚠️ Only one board is qualified so far: COMFAST with USB ID 3574:6211. Check with lsusb after plugging it in. Some listings are clones or use a Realtek chip instead, so look for "MT7921AU" in the reviews.

Custom firmware on its MediaTek MT7996 streams raw 14-bit IQ from 2.4/5/6GHz over 10GbE without dropping samples. It's not a snapshot mode, the waterfall is just one thing reading the stream.
