Enlightening to listen to a thought-provoking, stimulating conversation at Roja Muthiah Research Library on Dr Parakala Prabhakar’s collection of essays, The Crooked Timber of New India between the author @parakala and the inimitable @nramind. Dr Prabhakar touched on the many issues that threaten the idea of India: the rightwing turn of civil society, the faustian bargain done by regional parties, the dangerous levels of youth unemployment, the absence of data, and mere PR as a proxy for actual governance.
As the Founder of Dravidian Professionals Forum @DravidianForum, I was happy that it co-hosted the event, and played a part in creating a safe space for the democratic exchange of ideas. Such events are the manifestation of our motivation - that ideas are the lifeblood of any movement. I thank @CholamandalPann@dharanisalem and @PugazhGandhi for initiating this reading hub along with the Administration of the Roja Muthiah Library, and maintaining its quality and vigour.

There is truly no tribute that can match the magnitude of the life & legacy of our #Dravidianpillar & visionary leader Muthamizharignar Kalaignar. On this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to social justice & strive do our part to protect the values he fought for. #Kalaignar100
Our humble tribute to Thiru PTR Palanivel Rajan on his 17th death anniversary. In his four-decade long political career, he left an indelible mark on Dravidian Politics. He was known for his nobleness and modesty, & was instrumental in the development of Madurai.

Two years in, the #DMK government led by CM @mkstalin shows that progress is possible when elected leaders are committed to making people’s lives better. This article by our Exec Coordinator @puhazh_gandhi provides a great overview of the govt’s performance

Through his groundbreaking work and leadership, Sir P Theagaraya Chetty
opened doors for bringing some of the most progressive reforms in #TamilNadu. He was the first to bring noon-meal program in schools in 1922. Let's honor his legacy on his 171st anniversary!
#JusticeParty
As I remember my grandfather Sir Ponnambala Thiaga Rajan (22 April 1892 – 25 September 1974) on his 131st birth anniversary, today, I am proud to carry forward his exemplary legacy. He studied at Leys School, Cambridge; graduated in history from Jesus College, Oxford; studied law at the Inner Temple and was called to the Bar in 1917. He chose to give up his successful career as a barrister to join the South Indian Liberal Federation (Justice Party) in 1920. An unwavering loyalist, and last President of the Justice Party, he served as a Minister from 1930 (at the age of 38), and briefly held the portfolio of Chief Minister of the Madras Presidency in 1936 (at the age of 43).
The most befitting way of paying homage to his stellar public service is to share, in his own words, his vision for an equitable society. When the First Self Respect Conference was organised in Chengalpattu (Madras Presidency) in 1929, my grandfather was given the honour of hoisting the flag of the Self Respect Movement. Shared here is the text of his speech as reported in Dravidian (17 Feb 1929), his image on the conference invitation and a picture of the Self-Respect flag.
