I'm barely on Twitter these days, but you can find me on Bluesky where I'm a bit more active. Follow me there if you're migrating away from twitter! There's also instagram and Patreon. Links in thread, because twitter sucks.
I'm Drew. I'm a person. I make cartoons, some of which you and the kids in your life have enjoyed. And sometimes, when I'm feeling brave, I eat Arby's. #StandWithAnimation
Let’s remind everyone that their favorite animation is made by us—human animation workers! Post a pic or illustration of yourself, include your job & favorite series or movies you’ve worked on & tag TAG so we can share! Thanks Hannah Partlow for this graphic. #StandWithAnimation
@SharpySketch You are not the problem. We are not the problem. The system we're in is the problem. Bad leadership, too. This is true across so many things, and it's true for animation. (Not to say there isn't value in looking inward and improving, but that is hardly the issue here.)
God, think of all of the amazing things we could have made over the past 2-3 years if the people at the top of our industry weren't complete garbage bags. Years of potential art, squandered on making the rich, richer. So fucking sad.
@InkBenArt I don't even blame them. Financially it's really hard to stay in LA without a steady paycheck, and that's to say nothing of being totally disenchanted with how poorly this industry is run. I'm holding on as long as I can, but the people who leave...I totally get it.
@Rilenzz It was a well-made movie, but it didn't feel good to watch so I'd say it wasn't a Drew movie. I enjoy horror, but this one didn't click for me.
@PuccaNoodles It's a tough one to answer, but I usually say something like "I'm basically the visual blueprint for every shot. The composition, the acting, the staging/blocking. Visually what you see on the screen starts with me." It's not the most comprehensive description, but it works.
To be clear, I'm specifically talking about the animation industry, but just plug in your own creative (or sometimes not even creative) industry and the sentiment is exactly the same.
