Since the new VY documentary has resurfaced this discussion, here’s my take on it… Bud Adams should take the largest slice of the blame pie for how things worked out for VY here.

Neither Young nor Fisher handled the situation maturely, but forcing a QB on your stubborn but successful long time HC was a horrific ownership error.

Fisher had earned the right to have a say on the QB pick after helping develop McNair and winning so many games early in his time here. He shouldn’t have acted like a petulant child when he didn’t get that opportunity, but I understand why he’d be chapped about it.

Young getting drafted to a team where his head coach actively didn’t want him is just about worst case scenario for a young QB. He also behaved immaturely and handled it poorly just like his coach but he was a 22 year old kid who was put in a terrible situation for his career.

But both men were set up for failure by Bud.
