In 2015, Abdulmumin Jibrin founded and established the Kofa Farmers Market and Trade Centre which has emboldened the economy of Kiru/ Bebeji, providing jobs for youths and economic empowerment for small scale business enterprises. In 2020, he was appointed Executive Director, Business Development of the Federal Housing Authority, FHA. Abdulmumin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Finance and Control of Nigeria, Fellow of the Institute of Mass Communication, a Fellow of the Corporate Administration of Nigeria and a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary International.

I have known Abdulmumin Jibrin for well over 35 years, and he is one I would describe as a friend indeed! He has been supportive of me at different critical situations in my life as a brother and a friend. When I lost my dad, he engaged me as the MD of his company Green Forest, and eventually his Senior Legislative Aide at the national assembly. He sponsored my turbaning ceremony as Talba of Bauchi and was there every step of the way in the very tedious quest for the title. When I fell ill and had a surgery, he was there to support me morally and financially. Our friends refer to him as "Main Man", a very sociable and onerously generous character who would not hoard a dime, to cater for the needs of family and friends. He is a cheerful giver to friends, associates, family and even everyday people. He definitely enjoys from the blessings of his parents whom he looks after so well, and you could just see that at home he is favored so much. He offers great servitude to his parents and siblings. As you turn 50 today, I pen this tribute, as my birthday wishes to a very cerebral mind, and one of the most courageous politicians of the fourth republic who took the establishment head on, in a bid to ensure probity in the national assembly. Whether he wears an APC, NNPP or PDP garb, Kofa as he is famously known in Kiru/ Bebeji of Kano, will always be their choice whenever they head to the ballot because of his outstanding and meritorious service to his constituency. Happy 50th birthday my dear Mainman!

Abdulmumin Jibrin, PhD: best wishes to a courageous political mind!

What is it about Abdulmumin Jibrin that the people of Kano, Kiru/ Bebeji constituency, have continued to elect him for four different terms as their member in the house of representatives? Obviously he is one of the very select few of our elected politicians that have delved into politics from a successful academic and business career and have had tremendous impact in the national assembly. Abdulmumin has one of the most intimidating resumes you'll ever find from the nation's National Assembly and this is why he stands out as an innovative mind and a vocal reformer of the laws governing our financial institutions. He is what you would refer to as your consummate parliamentarian, chairing so many committees in the national assembly, which have brought far reaching reforms in our legislative processes, and eventually in the management of the nation's resources. Most notable is the championing of reforms to the national assembly's oversight function of our budget's appropriation cycle and its post passage implementation monitoring. Abdulmumin guided the passage of the first supplementary budget of the Buhari administration, facilitating the new govt's early fiscal transition and policy alignment. He also provided the legislative advocacy that led to the establishment of the TSA, treasury single account, which is one of the most significant cash management reforms in the nation's post-independence history. Abdulmumin has also initiated comprehensive legislative reforms of the Nigerian Insurance Industry which have led to the repeal of archaic laws and the legislation of new ones. Dr. Jibrin also sponsored the Public Private Partnership regulatory Commission Act, which has provided a statutory framework for the oversight of infrastructure concessions and PPP arrangements. One of Abdulmumin's landmark achievements in the national assembly is the uncovering of the non-remittance of substantial petroleum resources revenue by the NNPC to the federation account. Unlike your everyday politician, Abdulmumin is your legislator with startling results.

Abdulmumin went to the national assembly fully equipped I would say, to make headway and succeed. Much earlier in life as a young man, Abdulmumin had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve in life, and he put his head down to focus on building an illustrious career, studying in different sectors, ranging from economics to politics, and International Relations. He has a PhD in Economics and another PhD in International Relations, along with an MBA from Swiss Business School, Zurich, and an MSc in International Affairs from ABU. He has built himself with strategy and purpose, rigorously undergoing numerous executive leadership trainings including: Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at University of Oxford, Program for Leadership Development at Harvard, and a Senior Executive Program at London Business School; as well as Telecommunications Strategy & Markering at INSEAD France. As a businessman, he was the Chairman of the Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce, Abuja chapter, and a member of the Nigeria-America Chamber of Commerce, while he was the Chairman of the Tasyapi group in Nigeria, a multinational construction conglomerate from Turkey. Abdulmumin was also the Chairman of the Green Forest Group Ltd., an investment company with subsidiaries in energy, agriculture and property.

We in Bauchi have felt the tremendous impact of your healthcare reforms, making healthcare more affordable especially to indigent expectant women who are unable to afford C-section. More than 4,000 Nigerian women have benefitted from free C-section deliveries.

Thousands of youths nationwide, and especially in Bauchi, have gained employment under your watch. Today Bauchi state boasts of a state of the art cancer treatment centre, diagnostics centre, and Clinical Trials centre in addition to two teaching hospitals and two federal medical centres, as well as a National Obstetric and Fistula Centre.

Shettima: an intellectual chalice at 60!

What more can a writer do than throw encomia and laudations at you, as confetti, to celebrate an intellectual chalice like you, on your 60th birthday. I remember celebrating you on your 56th birthday your Excellency, and I had quipped that it was not tiring, but rather scintillating, covering your political sojourn, and I had prayed that you live long, so that Nigeria will continue to participate in the spectacular rendition of your leadership acumen. Today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GFCR; has in his approbations to you, called you a partner, and a brother, in steering the ship of the Nigerian state. He also praised you as a trusted ally, or a valued colleague, and a patriot whose life has been defined by service, commitment, and sacrifice for worthy causes. Mr. President waxes on, "I must thank Vice-President Shettima for his steadfast support and partnership as we continue to join hands in delivering the promises of Renewed Hope to Nigerians. His loyalty, wisdom and sense of duty have remained invaluable to the administration." A lot of people are not aware of the trust and confidence Mr. President has in you, as those that continued to be driven by envy, succeeded only in painting a false image of a fractured and discordant relationship between you and your boss. Your nomination for the 2nd time as running mate to Mr. President has put all that to bed. Mr. President's birthday message to you is laced with finely chosen and affectionate words that portray brotherhood, loyalty and trust. Mr. President definitely holds you in high esteem.

Through the lens of your aide, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Nigerians are able to see you not only as a statesman, but as a man, like everyone else. "Above all Senator Shettima's level of religious tolerance, humility and down to earth nature are incomparable. Not a day have I witnessed him raise his voice at any of his staff members. He asks us to proceed on holidays for Christmas after his wife lavishes us with gifts, Mr. Nkwocha captured in his reflections of working with you. "Go have your deserved rest with your families. They need you around, if I see any of you around me during Christmas, I will take it personal and I am not joking." He said with every seriousness, according to Mr. Nkwocha. On assumption of office, you picked your aides from different parts of the country, and from different religious beliefs. People you have worked with before. You are one of the most detribalised Nigerians one will meet in public service. You took a lot of stick from these appointments but you stood by them and today it is a non issue. The muslim muslim ticket you are a part of has now been well accepted as not having a hideous sharia agenda. May Allah be praised. Mr. Nkwocha speaks of your humanity and how you have often scolded them to go home and get some rest, as they work hard to meet deadlines. "Go home and get some rest! Exhausted people don't do excellent work. Come back fresh in the morning, Nigeria needs your best not your burnt out work." At 2:47am, Nkwocha says you are stuck in your library, otherwise known to your staff as your situation room, meditation space, or strategic planning centre. "He is always swamped with books, memos and other documents". Mr. Nkwocha says your night lamp is always on as you continue to review executive summaries, papers and other policy documents. At times you would have a draft reviewed six times just to perfect it. You would also review policy documents for grants to MSME's till they become accessible to ordinary Nigerians. If the VP is not reading books on economic theories, he is going through agric journals, or texts on conflict resolution, Mr. Nkwocha said and I quipped, Aha! There goes our intellectual chalice, always reading books.
