Before filming American Psycho, Christian Bale reportedly met author Bret Easton Ellis while fully in character as Patrick Bateman, introducing himself as the fictional investment banker. After about 10 minutes, Ellis asked him to stop, later saying his hands were shaking and that it was one of the creepiest experiences of his life. In 1998, before filming American Psycho began, Christian Bale arranged to meet novelist Bret Easton Ellis for dinner after seeking his approval for the role. When Bale arrived, he greeted Ellis while fully in character as Patrick Bateman, complete with the character’s polished appearance, mannerisms, and American accent. What started as an amusing introduction quickly became unsettling. Bale never broke character, maintaining Bateman’s calm, detached, and eerily composed personality throughout the conversation. After about ten minutes, Ellis later recalled that his hands were shaking and he finally asked Bale to stop, saying it was so convincing that he could no longer enjoy the meal.
