One thing I've noticed throughout my life is that women tend to lose themselves in relationships. Over time, we slowly align our beliefs and interests to match or at least be compatible with our husbands/partners. It's a subconscious process, and one that men seem far less likely to go through.
I did this myself with both my ex husband and my long term ex boyfriend. Both had beliefs that didn't mesh with my own. In the beginning, it was "agree to disagree" and then, over time, I started actually thinking more like them. I never saw it until long after the relationships were over. I was left drifting, not knowing who I was anymore. It took years for me to figure out who I was and be comfortable in my own head again.
I see this with female friends all around me. I watch them start relationships, get married, and then very slowly shift their beliefs, and then find themselves again if the relationship ends. I almost never see it go the other way.
It is intensely jarring to wake up from this trance mid-relationship when confronted with beliefs that you just can't rationalize or justify. With my ex boyfriend, this was what ended our 10 year relationship. I suspect a lot of these women are about to face that same scenario.
