Many people were taught a punitive view of the Cross. But for the first 1000 years of the Church, Penal Substitution wasn’t the story.

Repost if this reframe matters to someone you know.
Western Christianity shrunk "It is finished" into a private debt transaction.
That distortion has left empires intact, the poor still poor, and the oppressed still crushed.
Here's what tetelestai actually means — and why it changes everything. 🧵

He didn't take our place.
He went ahead of us — and then turned around and said: Follow me.
That changes what salvation asks of us today.

Heading home with very little sleep! The early wake-up is hitting hard, but it was worth it to spend time with friends and make new ones at the Ember Gathering. Now, time for a travel day back home. #ProfsOnAPlane
Don’t usually do back-to-back trips, but I’m Oakland bound & headed to the Ember Gathering to speak, reconnect with good friends, and maybe make some new ones from across the country. Cut the winter beard too…trying to step into spring. #ProfsOnAPlane
Flying to Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, IN to kick off Pastors & Leaders Week. This year the theme is Resistance, Resilience, and Rest, & I’ve been tapped to deliver 2 talks on resistance. Looking forward to reconnecting w/ lots of good folks✊🏾 #ProfsOnAPlane
