Legalisation of cannabis in Ireland for medicinal & adult use. End prohibition of all substances. Reduce harm, save lives.#CannabisReformIreland#EndProhibition
Stopping people cycling, taking less than 1gr of cannabis from them and bringing them to court to be convicted is what our Gardaí are spending their time on, supported by the Government.
Opposition parties need to start speaking up.
@Rubberbandits The Citizens assembly model in Irl is being watched & discussed by other jurisdictions as an impressive model for democratic policy making. I am so disappointed with this response. Disrespectful to the hundreds of people investing time in the process.
This short video by @julianbuchanan sums it up perfectly 👍
Drugs are already here (he talks about New Zealand but Ireland is no different)
People always have & will use drugs (alcohol, cocaine, cannabis, caffeine, psychedelics etc)
Prohibition maximizes the dangers of drugs

Legalising drugs isn't about introducing a drug - they are here already - unregulated, underground and with unknown quality and content

To truly put people's safety first, all drugs should be legalised & regulated. It sounds an extreme measure to some, but we know people always have & will use drugs. Why have some drugs legal and others illegal? Is it fair to dictate to people what drugs they can and cannot use?
There can be no doubt that if production and supply of #cannabis was legally regulated, everyone in Ireland would be safer. The evidence is unequivocal. #CADrugsUse
While this is a welcome move, perhaps lifting the ban on other drugs that actually have health benefits, such as cannabis and psychedelics, would do a lot more for people's health.

A friendly guide to making a submission to #CADrugsUse
This is such an important conversation, I encourage everyone to make a submission.
Short and simple submissions with a personal story (if applicable) work best, you don't need a degree on this issue to have a voice.
@TweeterReynolds@BobbySmyth4@MarycannonMary@WalleyRay@IMO_IRL Very well written letter. So many of the current issues around cannabis are indeed a result of cannabis prohibition. And unless things change, those problems won't go anywhere. A properly legalised and regulated market would drastically improve what we currently have.
Reminder... Stop and search powers are one of the most widely abused powers, disproportionately targets certain socio-economic groups, and results in overpolicing of underprivileged areas.

1/5 #CADrugsUse More evidence emerges of secret, behind closed doors work by @paulreiddublin in setting up the #citizensassembly. A press release has been issued this morning announcing a 'Lived Experience Group'. This has been formed without any transparency, without inviting...
I don’t mind rude comments, I get them everyday, that’s social media. Do me a favor though, don’t tell me how to run my life. I enjoy #Cannabis & so do many others. Who is with me!?!? #CannabisCommunity#Mmemberville#Weed
Coming up after midnight, @EoghanDalton reports on an unexpected intervention over the Citizens' Assembly on drugs, amid allegations that the Assembly has been blanketed in 'secrecy' ahead of its first session.
A Citizen’s Assembly has been called to discuss how Ireland should deal with the (illegal) drugs issue, but what do you think?
We’ve put together a short survey which is open to doctors practising in Ireland only.

IRELAND. Shocking bias from @RTERadio1 broadcasting this drug war doctor notorious for his regressive opinion. A grave disservice to the Irish people. Why not interview a consultant psychiatrist prescribing #cannabis for mental health conditions? #CADrugsUse
I am one of many names who signed this open letter last week. There are severe transparency issues surrounding the Assembly to date, and clarity should be given before it begins.
