Opportunities of "Dual" citizenship or disabilities of "duel" citizenship or tax slavery of U.S. citizenship? Insurance and opportunity in the Post-Covid World!
@ExpatriationLaw@DualCitizenship Dual citizens living in the US would arguably be affected most precariously if their US citizenship were to be deemed relinquished. It would impact their homes, businesses, and employment in the US, not to mention making their continued presence suddenly "undocumented!"
Wonderful article from @ChrisQuinnOhio consolidating responses to Senator Bernie Moreno's push to ban @dualcitizenship.
Read this twice and forward on!!

@ParvizMalakouti First, they forced those with @dualcitizenship to renounce one of their citizenships.
Second, they created a new crime called "anticipatory disloyalty" - to criminalize U.S. citizens considering getting another citizenship or passport.

A really great article from Andrew @Leahy about the evolution and true purpose of @InFBARWeTrust penalties (or maybe an attack on @DualCitizenship).

The latest victim of @InFBARWeTrust is an 87 year old man with @dualcitizenship

1. Audit them and find a mistake in their tax returns prior to naturalizing as U.S. citizens
2. Strip them of their citizenship.
3. Confiscate their assets via the 877A Exit Tax on the way out.
Start with the Americans with @dualcitizenship!

I understand the impulse to analogize. It’s a powerful tool to help us compare and understand things. @IRS_MEDIC
But…
Wife = individual human (at least for now lol) you choose
Citizenship = legal status created by ephemeral political entity made by politicians, and imposed on individuals.
God = the creator (for those whose believe)
These things are so different that the very comparison of them for discussion of owed loyalty is category error on steroids.

Iran has a law preventing political candidates with dual citizenship, or with a spouse or children having dual citizenship, from occupying “sensitive positions.” 👇
But Khamenei has reportedly said there should be flexibility for candidates who acquired automatic citizenship by birth abroad.
Why would Khamenei say such a thing? 🤔
12 Rules of Citizenship & Mobility to Cut Through BS
1. Time to naturalization eligibility is NOT time to citizenship acquisition.
2. Passport isn't a citizenship, nor vice versa.
3. Laws change. They can change while you're working towards naturalization eligibility too.
4. Naturalization eligibility does not mean guarantee of approval.
5. Naturalization means becoming a citizen.
6. Application for recognition of citizenship means you always were a citizen since an earlier event (usually birth).
7. Naturalization and recognition of citizenship are completely different and can have way different downstream effects on your life, in immigration, tax, military service, criminal legal liability, inheritability and many other areas. Know what's being offered to you.
8. Countries pass unlawful laws sometimes. It's a fact of life, predictable, and must be accounted for as a risk.
9. Not all mobility benefits are equal in strength.
10. Not all mobility benefits are equal in robustness.
11. 3rd country visa-free access isn't the most important nor robust benefit of a citizenship. It's a ridiculous single measurement criteria.
12. Immediate highest right of entry and residency to the country of citizenship only is the most robust benefit of a citizenship, and the core of its benefits.
Combining the benefits of #studyabroad with the opportunities for acquiring @dualcitizenship is why students should seek educational opportunities outside their country of residence/citizenship.

@patienceisalpha@ParvizMalakouti Great stuff! Thanks for sharing. This discussion is highlighting an unappreciated and under acknowledged aspect of citizenship and the benefits of @dualcitizenship. Not to mention to pass citizenship on to children in many cases.
Q. Why are #AccidentalAmericans preferred US citizens with a higher class of US citizenship?
A. Most most have @dualcitizenship from birth and therefore can renounce (assuming tax compliance and residency requirements) without the 877A Exit Tax. https://t.co/yNQolznLjI
