Read a Nina Riggs Award nomination that has me sitting here weeping. Weeping! For beauty. For life. For love. @Duberstein, this is why we do this. Nina would’ve loved these. (I now gather myself to go play with my kids but those poems were a hinge and this day has been changed.)
Big thanks to everyone who donated to the Nina Riggs Poetry Award yesterday. We raised $580. In one day! You are awesome.
We are giving away a bonus prize of Cave Wall #13, which contains this poem by Nina Riggs.
Happy end of one year, beginning of another.
If you're thinking about end of the year tax-deductible donations, please keep the Nina Riggs Poetry Foundation in mind. And if you'd like to donate as a gift in honor of someone, you can email Cave Wall and we'll send a note to let them know. https://t.co/kP9NBGdWmI

people often conflate descriptive (positive) claims with prescriptive (normative) claims. descriptive claims are all about what “is," such as “steak-umm is 100% beef.” prescriptive claims on the other hand are all about what “ought to be," such as “everyone should love steak-umm”

The proper term for this is “superior mirage” or “superior looming mirage” but I have seen the term “fata morgana” used for a similar phenomenon also caused by weird kinds of light bending over the ocean.
