We had a great student kickoff for our DriveOhio STEM Collaboration with Mr. King’s IB Computer Science class today! Students will explore: “How can we improve transportation safety in our communities using data and sensor technology?” @DCSEmerald@DublinSchools
Thank you to Rich Granger, Managing Director of Workforce and Economic Development at DriveOhio, Nick Hegemier, Managing Director of Infrastructure at DriveOhio, and City of Dublin Engineer, Jeannie Willis.
We are very excited for this year long project and opportunity!
Congratulations to our EPIC teachers of the month, Mr. McKenzie (IB Chem and Sports Science Academy) and Mrs. Rogers (IB Lit & Performance) and student of the month, Lynx McMullen (IB Diploma Candidate)! We are so grateful for all of your hard work! @DCSEmerald@DublinSchools
In Diploma, CAS Projects demonstrate collaboration between a group of students or community working as part of a team. The idea also challenges students to show initiative, demonstrate perseverance, & develop skills such as those of cooperation, problem-solving & decision making
Dhruti is using her established mentorship and philanthropic organization, The Knightingales Chess Academy, as a part of her CAS project to expand and deepen her work with youth as a part of her community outreach within IB.
🏫🗣️ Dublin City Schools’ district leadership team is hitting the road. 🚌 Join us for our upcoming Community Conversation event at School to learn all the facts about the upcoming levy/bond issue. 📊

IB Business Management develops an understanding of business theory as well as provides tools and techniques in the cultural and economic context in which a business operates. Emphasis is placed on strategic decision making & functions, production, and HR management & finance.
Mr. Stier, from IB Business & the Entrepreneur Academy, reviews Disciplined over Default behavior, aligned with @DublinSchools Culture Playbook. Students reviewed different behaviors determine if they were above or below the line, & even how no BCDing creates a positive culture!
Mr. King uses both algorithms and statistical permutations to explore the R Factor theme of Discipline over Default in his IB Computer Science HL and SL classes. This is a theme we are embodying through the @dublinschools district and even IB as being principled learners.
IB Computer Science provides that rigorous framework to solving problems by using computers. As Mr. King would say, Computers aren’t necessarily smart, they just work really fast. Students use JAVA programming language, coding, and develop a Program Dossier to demonstrate mastery
He explains that it’s advantageous to think about problems before you start trying to create a solution to a problem, much like it is having a disciplined approach and using time to find a resolution. We find resolutions instead of BCDing or simply defaulting to giving up.
This month we are focusing on disciplined behavior over default behavior. Relating to the IB Learner Profile attribute of being Principled. We as learners act with integrity and honesty, and take responsibility for our actions.
Our students reflect on the IB Learner Profile—10 attributes valued by IB World Schools to describe a broad range of capacities and responsibilities beyond academic success!
In IB Math teacher, Ms. Shull’s, classroom, students reflect after each unit’s assessment! @DCSEmerald
They then, take a second post it note, and write a goal for the next unit and an attribute, and steps to embody or attain that deployable skill or trait.
What we have found is that in @DublinSchools we have direct alignment with our R Factor themes and Philosophy.
The Extended Essay is a component as part of the Core for the IB Diploma Program. It is an independent research project, culminating with a 4,000 word paper. It provides practical application and preparation for our students in future undergraduate/graduate research !
IB Diploma candidate, Amie Wang, works on research for her Extended Essay in Chemistry. She’s exploring the fermentation process of cabbage and the vitamin C concentration in which ultimately could lead to connections through cancer research! @DCSEmerald
