Who are we?

We are refugees whom the Swiss government intends to forcibly return to Greece under the Dublin procedure. Due to severe human rights violations, economic crises, and war conditions in our countries, as well as threats of long-term captivity and imprisonment, we were forced to leave the cities where we were born and raised, along with our families and loved ones. During this difficult migration journey, we were again subjected to torture and ill-treatment. Despite all these hardships, we reached Switzerland with the hope of a safe life and applied for asylum here.

However, many of us are now struggling to survive in the unsuitable conditions of various cantons in Switzerland. In addition, we are trying to survive with insufficient budgets while being under a work ban. We live under great uncertainty and stress due to the deportation decision made by the Swiss Migration Secretariat (SEM). The threat of being forcibly sent back to Greece, which does not offer any security for our lives, increases the pressure on us. While trying to cope with all these problems, our hope for a safe future decreases every day.

What do we want?

We are closely following the rise of far-right politics in Europe and Switzerland, along with increasing anti-refugee, discriminatory, and exclusionary practices. Every day, we witness the rapid rise in forced return procedures that violate international agreements and basic human rights. We categorically reject the recent decisions for multiple forced returns to Croatia. The “New Migration Pact” approved by the European Parliament, armed organizations like Frontex, the out-of-country asylum camp opened by Italy in Albania, and other similar anti-refugee laws, policies, and practices are a significant source of concern for us.

We reject the bilateral and multilateral negotiations made by European states that treat refugees as commodities. In a situation where many Greek citizens are migrating to Switzerland or other European countries due to economic difficulties and political pressures, our forced return to Greece would mean depriving us of basic humanitarian needs such as health, housing, and food. Furthermore, the question of whether Greece will return us to our source countries remains uncertain. Moreover, the increasing intelligence activities of the Turkish government in Greece and its actual interventions in the lives of refugees present a serious threat to us.

Under these conditions, our return to Greece would be a clear violation of the right to asylum, which is protected by the 1951 Geneva Convention. We call on the Swiss Migration Secretariat (SEM) to immediately abandon these wrong practices and withdraw the asylum rejection and deportation decisions made under the Dublin procedure. We refuse to be forcibly sent back to Greece without concrete guarantees and in violation of basic human rights. We declare that we will continue our fight against this procedure both legally and politically at national and international levels. We want to make our voice heard more strongly by acting in solidarity with all democratic institutions and individuals who approach refugee rights from the perspective of human rights.
