Today I waited an uncomfortably long time by the window and he never came to wave. I decided not to tell him tonight that I waited and when he didn’t come I cried softly to myself so nobody could see. Parenting really is a slow, painful way to die, isn’t it?

Every day I park in front of this window when I drop Finn off at school. By the time I get back to the car he’s waiting to wave to me. He’s only missed one day all year and that night he told me that he cried softly to himself so nobody could see.
