THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY XVI
This is the entire timeline of events that occur prior to the start of the game, with over 5,000 years worth of history.

There is a TON of new lore, such as the "Present Age" regarding the Crystalline Dominion, what exactly was the Remembrance Ceremony, and much more. Read at your own discretion! Events are written in chronological order.

THE AGE OF ULTIMA
5000+ Years Prior
-Ultima is Born
-Magic is discovered
-Rise of Ultima’s Civilization
-The Blight appears and spreads across the world
-Ultima discovers Valisthea
-Ultima devises a plan to cast Raise
-Mothercrystals are placed across Valisthea
-Ultima creates Man
-Establishes “Jade,” a portal located at the foot of the Dzemekys Mothercrystal that connects to Origin
-Ultimalius, King of the Ultima, enters a state of slumber

THE AGE OF PRIMITIVE MAN
4000+ Years Prior
-The Protectors are born and form groups around each aspected element Mothercrystal
-Man develops a will

THE AGE OF SORCERY
3500 Years Prior
-Man begins to use magic for other things aside from protecting the Mothercrystals

3000 Years Prior, the Beginning of the Fallen
-The Fallen are created
-They create an advanced civilization using the magic they were able to develop and refine
-Led to a civilization in the sky with airships and advanced technology

From 3000 to 1,500 Years Prior, during the Fallen
-Summoners are born, who are able to wield strong magic
-People establish nations
-The Circle of Malius religion is formed

1,500 Years Prior, the End of the Fallen
-The Great War of Magic Happens
-The war broke out over aether resources
-The Blight appears on Valisthea
-The Tragedy of Dzemekys occurs where the Dzemekys, who were tasked to protect the Mothercrystal Dzemekys, fought the Fallen as the Fallen were trying to claim the mothercrystal as their own
-After Ultima destroys the Fallen during the Tragedy of Dzemekys, the Motes of Darkness (Dzemekys) leave Valisthea and go to the Outer Continents

THE AGE OF THE NEW PEOPLE
1,300 Years Prior
-Civilizations starts to degrade back to primitive times, losing all the advanced technology from the Fallen era
-Nations begin to form around Mothercrystals instead

1,000 Years Prior
-Religions flourish

950 Years Prior
-Bearers are made known
-Bearers start to be oppressed
-The oppressed Bearers start an Uprising

THE AGE OF THE CONTINENTAL CALENDAR
Year 1 (About 870 Years Prior)
-The Continental Treaty is made
-Bearers are marked and enslaved
-Gil is made into a currency

Year 100 (About 770 Years Prior)
-Dominants are Born
-Nations start to defend Dominants

Year 150 (About 720 Years Prior)
-The Continental Treaty is abolished
-The nations that gained military strength due to Dominants went to war with each other over the resources of aether
-The Continental Treaty was established to call for peace among the lands
-Although it was abolished, the treatment of Bearers remained the same

THE AGE OF NEW KINGDOMS
Year 170 (About 700 Years Prior)
-Smaller Countries established in various regions

Year 200 (About 670 Years Prior)
-The Holy Empire of Sanbreque’s Predecessor is established

Year 210 (About 660 Years Prior)
-The Republic of Dhalemkia’s Predecessor is established

Year 220 (About 650 Years Prior)
-The Temple of the Crystalline Orthodox Church is established

Year 250 (About 620 Years Prior)
-The Kingdom of Rosaria’s Predecessor is established

**NOTE: From Years 170-250, small countries around Drake’s Eye were in disarray, and Shiva’s Dominant is born. Other small countries fight over Drake’s Spine, the owners of that Mothercrystal constantly changes. Drake’s Horn is also sought after between the Motes of Water and the beast tribes

Year 300 (About 570 Years Prior)
-The Blight appears on the Continent of Ash and spreads

Year 350 (About 520 Years Prior)
-Drake’s Horn at Southern Ash is destroyed

Year 400 (About 470 Years Prior)
-Fights over Drake’s Spine intensify following the destruction of Drake’s Horn

Year 450 (About 420 Years Prior)
-The Northern Territories is intergrated
-The Iron Kingdom’s Predecessor is established
-The Kingdom of Veldemarke is established

Year 500 (About 370 Years Prior)
-The Republic of Dhalmekia is officially established

Year 550 (About 320 Years Prior)
-The Rose Alliance is formed

Year 600 (About 270 Years Prior)
-The Kingdom of Rosaria is officially established

Year 700 (About 170 Years Prior)
-The Holy Empire of Sanbreque is officially established

Year 750 (About 120 Years Prior)
-The Blight appears and spreads through the Continent of Storm

Year 790 (About 80 Years Prior)
-Drake’s Eye is destroyed near the Northern Territories
-The Northern Territories try to invade Rosaria, and Phoenix fights Shiva in a great war
-Fights break out within the Northern Territories, and they are forced to retreat
-The Iron Kingdom is established
-The Crystalline Dominion’s Predecessor is established
-Barnabas Tharmr is born

THE PRESENT AGE
Year 820 (About 53 Years Prior)
-The Iron Kingdom dispatches a spy named Ilshtar to the Crystalline Dominion’s Predecessor
-He is sent to gain power and bring forth the rise of the Crystalline Orthodox Church

Year 824 (About 49 Years Prior)
-Ilshtar gains power, declares Crystalline Dominion Predecessor’s independence
-The dominion closes itself off from other kingdoms

Year 825 (About 48 Years Prior)
-War over Drake’s Tail Breaks Out due to the Crystalline Dominion Predecessor trying to take it for themselves
-Veldemarke, Sanbreque, and Dhalmekia stop them and wins the war, and they govern the dominion together

Year 829
-Cidolfus Telamon is born

Year 833 (About 40 Years Prior)
-The Incident of Fawn Coast Happens
-Ilshtar is discovered to be originally from the Iron Kingdom
-This causes the Crystalline Orthodox Church religion to be suppressed
-Leads to massacre of the religion’s followers
-Situation is resolved when Crystalline Orthodox Church believers do a mass suicide at Fawn Coast

Year 835
Hugo Kupka is born

Year 840 (About 33 Years Prior)
-Civil War breaks out within the Dhalmekia Republic
-Kingdom of Veldemarke supports one side, Sanbreque the other, the two countries go to war

Year 842 (About 31 Years Prior)
-The Blockade of Osa Strait happens
-Following the Dhalemkia Civil War, the Kingdom of Veldemarke blocks the Osa Strait from Sanbreque, leading to war between the two countries

Year 843 (About 30 Years Prior)
-The Kingdom of Waloed is founded
-Barnabas Tharmr took advantage of the unrest caused by the war between Veldemarke and Sanbreque and pacified the entire continent of Ash.
-He then destroyed the Kingdom of Veldemarke overnight and makes the Kingdom of Waloed.

Year 845 (About 28 Years Prior)
-Crystalline Dominion regains its independence
-The Kingdom of Veldemarke is destroyed and in its place, the Kingdom of Waloed rises.
-Sanbreque, Dhalmekia, Waloed and Rosaria agree to let the Crystalline Dominion be neutral.
-Clive Rosfield is born
-Benedikta Harman is born

Year 848
Jill Warrick is born

Year 849 (About 24 Years Prior)
-The City of Kanver tries to become independent from the Dhalmekian Republic
-The Kingdom of Waloed helps Kanver gain independence to establish a presence on Storm

Year 850 (About 23 Years Prior)
-Alliance formed between Rosaria and Dhalmekia
-Joshua Rosfield is born
-Dion Lesage is born
-*Sidenote: Ultima appears before Barnabas Tharmr, and he turns Akashic

Year 854 (About 19 Years Prior)
-The Kingdom of Rosaria pacifies the Northern Territories

Year 857 (About 16 Years Prior)
-Kanver finally gains independence from Dhalmekia
-Rosaria allied with Dhalmekia to fight Waloed and were almost victorious, but Dhalmekia’s best soldiers left the battlefield, leading to their defeat

Year 859 (About 14 Years Prior)
-The Kingdoms of Storm form an alliance (Sanbreque, Dhalmekia, and Rosaria) to prevent another incident like Kanver from happening where cities try to gain independence
-In order to commemorate this alliance, the three countries came together (presumably the Remembrance Ceremony), but this is when Sanbreque’s Sylvester and Rosaria’s Anabella plotted to have Sanbreque invade Rosaria.

Year 860 (About 13 Years Prior)
-Insurrection happens in the Kingdom of Rosaria
-Phoenix Gate events happen
-The Iron Kingdom also invades Rosaria

Year 861 (About 12 Years Prior)
-The Holy Empire of Sanbreque combines with the Kingdom of Rosaria

Year 862
Midadol Telamon is born

Year 865 (About 8 Years Prior)
-A Continental War breaks out across all the nations

Year 873 (Start of the Game)
-The Battle at Nysa Defile
