Duke's player-development wins are real floor-raisers:
- Pat Ngongba looks way more athletic and can shoot 3s now.
- Dame Sarr's handle is way better, and he's more assertive
- Sebastian Wilkins has grown into a real rotation piece. Jon Scheyer called him the biggest surprise
Strong showing from Duke against KU in a tough environment, great prep for the season
The good:
Ngongba was dominant
Blackwell delivered
Great in the 2nd half/down the stretch
FTs
Needs work:
JBB 2/10 FGs
Wilkins 7 pts was only real offense from the bench
Fast break Def.
Patrick Ngongba against Kansas:
28 points
10 rebounds
4 assists
2 blocks
9/12 FGs
Likely the best showing of his career, and the best is yet to come...
3:32 in the 2nd: Duke 83 - Kansas 76
Duke is on a 6-0 run and is keeping KU from getting good looks
KU almost always seems to make 3s down the stretch in big games at home, let's see how the Duke D can rise to the occasion
7:53 in the 2nd: Duke 77 - Kansas 73
Duke only allowed 80+ points twice in the '25-26 season (TX Tech, FSU)
Our interior D is really different with Pat off the court
3 fouls on Blackwell, JBB, Foster
15:22 in the 2nd: Duke 58 - Kansas 57
Duke leads 15-12 in the 2nd half, we're getting the ball into the paint but are 0/2 from 3 this half, now 6/17 for the game
Cayden has played 11 minutes but hasn't scored yet (0/3 FGs)
Just one shot taken for Rippey
JBB has taken 5 shots for just 3 pts
A lot of room to improve on offense in the 2nd half
Other than Ngongba who's looked great, Duke needs to be a lot stronger on the inside, on both O and D
It'll be interesting to see if Scheyer tightens up the 2nd half rotation in a competitive (exhibition) game
I like how when Ngongba falls to the floor he just sits there with his arms extended waiting for someone to help him up - I need someone like that to help me out of my recliner
