Don't accept Vitamin A supplements for your children.
Vitamin A is an important co-enzyme that we don't mention in our nutrition.
The actual name is RETINOL which is also the active form of Vitamin A.
Vitamin A has 3 functions
- Promote vision.
- Nourish skin membranes.
- Immune activation against infections.
Vitamin A is also important in reproduction since it promotes cell division (mitosis and meiosis).
Lack of Vitamin A leads to:
- Night blindness i.e inability to see clearly at night.
- Dry, scaly skin.
- Multiple skin sores.
- Dry lips and mouth sores.
- Endless symptoms of common cold eg runny nose.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, therefore it can only be absorbed in the presence of essential fatty acids.
Seed oils are NOT essential. Animal fats are essential.
What leads to a lack of Vitamin A:
- Inflamed gut
- Messed up gut flora with antibiotics
- Low stomach acid
- Grains
- Lack of bile salts
Best sources of Vitamin A
- Liver
- Eggs
- Cheese
- Cod Liver Oil
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Note: Kales, Carrots and spinach are not the best sources of vitamin A. They only have the inactive form of Vitamin A called beta-carotene only 6% is converted to the active RETINOL.
The picture I shared is of leg sores. Many children have leg sores in rural areas because they lack vitamin A.
Children in rural areas are always walking barefoot or with exposed legs, therefore, get injuries from sticks, stones or thorns but since they lack Vitamin A in their diets, their skins have lost the integrity to quickly heal from skin injuries.
So, when they go to hospitals what are they given?
Antibiotics!
Yet the antibiotics will worsen the problem.
In rural areas due to the pressure of modernity, mothers sell eggs to buy bread denying their children vital nutrition.
I am not saying that urban children are healthy, they are actually the most unhealthy but I have pointed out a nutritional ailment that specifically affects rural children due to their exposure to farm-related injuries.
Therefore, instead of the useless synthetic Vitamin A supplements, give them food.
