@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo ok but then the action of causing ppl to see information with the goal of getting them to believe something is just like, the definition of things like debate ? (are we both tweeting in this thread with a "profit motive" to you ???) Teaching seems to qualify too ? Parenting ?
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo > exercising control over an information source to push an agenda
would greatly appreciate a clarification here on whether this involves a cabal of evil illuminati wikipedians or "person who makes an edit with the hopes of influencing people who read Wikipedia"
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo > a desire for power, influence and control
ok so this just goes back to whether "real movers" are the illuminati or if you consider any deliberate action made with the hope that it may influence someone into believing something is thusly done with a "profit motive"
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo It's quite unlikely that *any* high-activity Wikipedia editor works solely with "a desire to help their fellow man", but now you're declaring "guy who finds wiki-editing to be a fun hobby (coincides with helping their fellow man but not their sole motivation)" a profit motive
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo Like I guess everyone on Wikipedia is lying all the time and only making minor changes/cleanups/typo fixes to get street cred, and all Minecraft mod makers are just delusional in assuming it'll actually get them more than scraps in actual Modrinth/Curseforge/ko-fi/etc. money
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo If you want to go back to the meme, unless you're making ludicrous assumption on how most people behave, altruistic behavior is still extremely widespread in those places
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo ok but are they the illuminati or is the mere concept of advocating or even propagandizing (or gray, or black propaganda or whatever you want to call it) at people a "profit motive"
@FumoKomeiji@bee_fumo ok so are wikipedians the illuminati or are you counting "diffuse satisfaction of having-had-an-effect" as a "profit incentive" ?
@Romaniiitedomum@DanielAhlsen@MattZeitlin If Europe was making "bronze age exports" then they'd get outbid by every single third-world and developing country, come on now
@bee_fumo I will say, I can be quite sympathetic to the plight of some of these programming languages, but I do not quite think "acting like a reddit mod" qualifies as a "profit motive" for a Wikipedia edktor
@toasterdoggg@Anheroic13@MadKamikazius There's a pretty big contingent of ppl who simply just don't like the experience of actually playing a game - I would not find it so obvious that those people should be banned from enjoying the non-gameplay aspects of a video game to the point of calling themselves a fan of it
@TsukiiSparda@Algaart@soggycinnamons You consider that someone who listens to an audiobook hasn't experienced the same set of information of a given work as someone who read the words on a page ?
@GnericJohn@UESC_Durandal@imnotChris21 Especially for something like Until Dawn they would presumptively not be incapable of talking or reasoning on story merely because their experience of that story (which is as or perhaps even more exhaustive than that of many players) did not involve them holding a controller
@jostarinfinity@TsukiiSparda piracy makes ppl fake fans? I'd have figured the actual objection was the lack of consumption of media, not the lack of money sending - in the latter case someone can be a real fan simply by buying a game/movie/book even if they never experience the product they bought :)
