Our Delegate Marcus Simon hosted his annual Latkepalooza on Sunday at Clare and Don’s in CFC. Marcus announced his intention to seek a sixth term in the Virginia House of Delegates in 2023.
Veterans Day 2022 observances in Falls Church included the unveiling of a plaque honoring 4 students who attended our City high school and later were killed while serving in the military during the Vietnam War. Thanks to all who have answered the call to service from our country.
Movies return to The City! Paragon Theatres has signed a lease to operate a 7-screen facility at Founders Row. Decades ago, Falls Church had two movie houses — the State (downtown) and the Jefferson (on Annandale Rd., just over the City line). Great to have the Big Screens back!

At S. West & W. Broad, up the street from our CFC home, is a rug store that’s been advertising a liquidation sale for most of the past three decades. Finally, it looks like the end is near. Demolition is expected in early ‘23 of this building and the defunct drug store next door.
Saturday was community cleanup day in Falls Church, with citizens fanning out across town to pick up litter. A contingent of City Councilors (along with the Hardi boys) signed in at the Community Center and bagged trash on the south side of CFC.
Thursday we enjoyed a joyous 1st anniversary party for Scramble Falls Church, the indoor play facility on E. Fairfax St., in the Southgate Village Shoppes. Once just a parking lot, now a dynamic business serving our City’s families.
Speaking to this month’s luncheon of the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce was Virginia state Sen. Chap Peterson. Hosted by Dominion Wine & Beer, whose outdoor dining pavilion opened during the pandemic and now looks to be a permanent fixture.
Booming new West End business Local Thrift hosted the monthly mixer of the FC Chamber of Commerce. The store is an extension of Quinn’s Auction Galleries, a longtime stalwart of the City’s business community.
Falls Church Arts hosted what seemed like their biggest-ever Plein Air Festival on Saturday in the City Hall lawn. Theme this year: “Scenes in the City.” My photos here are just a sampling of the very excellent show.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, longtime community resident and political activist Jeff Person accepted Council’s proclamation declaring Sept. 12-16, 2022 as Disability Voting Rights Week in The City.
