It feels a lot like Groundhog Day. But from the other side of the UK political aisle. Greens calling my migration analysis “made up nonsense” - has strong echoes of Reform UK calling my fiscal analysis of their own proposals “juvenile claptrap” back in May 2025.
Fair play to Reform UK they subsequently engaged last year, and have since heavily revised their tax & spending positions. Will be interesting to see whether the Greens take the same approach and publish their own analysis of how their policies will impact UK population flows (and we can compare notes!), or just stick to name calling…..
A summary of my research note into UK population growth under different vintages of political leadership.
What is striking is after decades of relatively homogeneous policy positions a very large spread (4.2m over the course of a single parliament) has now emerged between the likely impact of migration policies from Reform UK and the Greens, and even amongst the traditional parties where policy propositions have tightened to create a likely undershoot to the ONS principal population forecast.
In doing this work it struck me what a remarkable absence of policy-conditional population forecasts exist for what regularly polls as one of the top two issues for Britons: https://t.co/6q6j6gWG18
The message from the @premierleague couldn’t be clearer. If we think you’re an important part of our brand, we’ll only pretend to punish you. But if you’re Everton or Forest, guilty of a much lesser rules breach, we will try to relegate you. Transparent and indefensible

Pensions are once more under threat in the Budget. A raid on pension lump sums wouldn't be a tax on fat cats but a penalty on ordinary people saving - responsibly -for later life. Find out more in this piece from @JPFordRojas (with a link to the petition)
