This time last year, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that releasing movies in theaters was "an outmoded idea for most people" and that consumers wanted "to watch movies at home."
Today, movie theaters have scored their biggest weekend of all time at the global box office.
@CarterNixon The first trailer like a year ago was pretty dope, but all the trailers before Spidey were the worst trailers for each of the respective movie. Kinda shockingly so
Hats off to doctoral student and podcaster Zhong Shu in Beijing, China, who did this fascinating and smart interview with Christopher Nolan about THE ODYSSEY yesterday, originally posted to Bilibili.
A great listen/watch.
Online reactions to DISCLOSURE DAY, THE ODYSSEY, and more have me wondering: have people forgotten how to watch movies? I wrote about it here: https://t.co/kNEgZ8TC9N
@strongandjacket@movieboy69 Nobody said they couldn’t focus on the film, just said people using their phone is a distraction by the very nature of it being an illuminated screen in a dark room. Our eyes respond to stimulus however briefly.
Basic decency and respect to others in a shared space.
@strongandjacket@movieboy69 It’s a dark ass room, any light is going to be distracting. Just keep your phone in your pocket until it’s over and be respectful of the people around you. If you absolutely need to be on your phone, just leave the theater.
Common decency and respect.
@strongandjacket@movieboy69 If people can see your phone screen then yeah it’s pretty distracting. If someone can’t go two hours without checking their phone maybe don’t watch a movie?
@SuperMikey_ I think single cuffing generally looks stupid, but double cuffing looks good.
But also yeah, dude on the left with a horrendous loafer socks cuff combo
Every time I get annoyed with Nolan for how on the nose his dialogue is and how he treats the audience like children, I’m reminded many people don’t actually watch movies when they see them
I think anyone who includes someone else's video taken during a movie screen is just as morally reprehensible as the person who was recording during the screening.
You are a bad person
me when Jigsaw puts a dude through a human sized garlic press because he was rude to a waiter: fucker had it coming. haha. Good riddance
Me when John Kramer is mean to Amanda: this is too far. She is so fragile in this moment. We can all tell she is not doing well. John. Please.
