Gentner Drummond’s Emails Expose His Deep Disdain for President Trump and Conservative Kevin Hern

Tulsa, OK: Before Gentner Drummond asked Oklahoma Republicans to hand him the keys to the Governor’s Mansion, he made his feelings about President Donald Trump and conservative Republicans like Congressman Kevin Hern unmistakably clear.

In a 2017 email to Hern’s campaign, Drummond wrote:

“Kevin’s affinity for Trump is a non-starter for me. Any meeting is a waste of his time.”

Fast forward to 2026, and the same Gentner Drummond is campaigning for Republican votes in one of the most pro-Trump states in the nation. His past statements and political record have prompted questions about whether he could genuinely partner with an America First agenda or work constructively with President Trump.

Drummond’s political history also includes at least 11 documented donations to Oklahoma Democrats, including a contribution to Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign. Supporters of his primary opponent argue those contributions reflect a broader pattern of supporting candidates and causes at odds with today’s Republican base.

“If donating to Joe Biden and Oklahoma Democrats wasn’t enough, Gentner Drummond’s own words about President Trump tell Oklahoma Republicans everything they need to know about where he really stood,” said Carissa Mazzei, spokeswoman for Mike Mazzei. “While Drummond carries the Never Trump banner, Mike Mazzei is proud to have President Trump’s endorsement. His plan for Oklahoma is built on the same America First priorities that President Trump is fighting for to Make America Great Again.”

The contrast between Drummond’s past statements and his current campaign has become a central line of attack in the Republican gubernatorial runoff. Critics argue the emails and campaign finance records raise questions about consistency and political authenticity, while supporters may view his positions differently.

As the runoff approaches, Oklahoma Republicans will ultimately decide whether Drummond’s current campaign aligns with his past record.
