Glad I left home at 6.20am and -7C to beat the train strike and get to court in time to meet my client for a 10am sentence hearing - which the court has now moved to 3pm because the prison didn't bring my client to court and the court's prison video link is broken.
I publicly confirm:
- I will be following No Returns.
- I will never join a Public Defender Service.
- I fully support and believe in @TheCriminalBar
- I fully support a united campaign, working with all arms of the legal profession.
@Brummybar @nmbarraclough I’m on your circuit Michelle and I’m also a member of the @TheCriminalBar . I hope that the Midland Circuit backs them to the absolute hilt.
@carey_thor_93 @DrProudman Thanks for the explanation. Even so, if I were ever stupid enough to put to a complainant “I suggest you’ve got daddy issues”, after I’d explained it to the bemused judge, I’d probably be reported for misconduct.
@DrProudman For the uninitiated, could you please explain what you mean by ‘daddy issues’? In my 36 years of prosecuting and defending sexual offences, I have never heard of the term, still less have I encountered it in a criminal case.
@DrProudman It’s about time that someone who prosecutes these cases day in, day out, calls you out for the misleading and scaremongering nonsense that you perpetuate. By the way, is this you? https://t.co/VBDPkO5Cxj
“Officials at the Criminal Bar Association say that they “stand with criminal solicitors in the need for a substantial and accelerated injection of funds for their pay rates” @TheCriminalBar chair @JoSidhuQC in @thetimes @TimesLaw 4 square with criminal #legalaid +solicitors
Today is probably as good a day as any to remind us of the extraordinary coincidence that the following were all born on the 23rd March.
Sir Roger Bannister
Sir Steve Redgrave
Sir Mo Farrah
Sir Chris Hoy
Jason Kenny CBE
Crocodile tears. All of these politicians - Buckland, Patel, Johnson - openly supported the defunding of criminal justice that led directly to this situation.
We have begged you for *years* to fix it. You refused, cynically calculating that the public wouldn’t notice.
Shameful.
