Former MNA and PTM leader Ali Wazir has been repeatedly arrested over the past several years under a range of charges, including sedition, hate speech, and unlawful assembly.

His public speeches have at times been highly critical of state institutions, and while they have been controversial, freedom of expression and political dissent remain technically protected rights under Pakistan’s Constitution.

I appeal to the @GovtofPakistan @ForeignOfficePk @PakistaninUK to:

Pursue any criminal allegations within the bounds of the law;

Avoid the use of administrative detention as a means of suppressing political opposition;

Ensure that all citizens, including political and human rights activists, are treated equally under the law

I ask that @FCDOGovUK @ukinpakistan @AusHCPak @EUinPakistan monitor this case and support the rule of law in Pakistan.
