Great turnout for the Northern Ireland Reception today at the Invest NI Northern Ireland Stand at the Farnborough Show.

We have an exceptional aerospace and defence sector in Northern Ireland - I am proud of what they have achieved and their reputation for excellence. It was an honour to come along to the show to champion and support them.

Once again Northern Ireland companies excelled - achieving significant success in the ADS Supply Chain 21 (SC21) awards - holding over 70% of the UK’s gold awards and hugely significantly above our pro-rata across the awards. Northern Ireland also now holds 2 out of the 3 UK Silver Aero Excellence Awards. Denroy was the world’s first ever winner and were joined by Moyola Precision Engineering who received the award and the top UK award. Just incredible.

Northern Ireland is open for business - and there were plenty of opportunities at the show!

I am disgusted to hear about the attacks on the Memorial Hall. Targeting the minority unionist community in the city as they are exercising their core civil rights and human rights to engage in cultural activity needs condemned by all. I extend my full solidarity to those attacked.

It is deeply disturbing that a band practice involving young people and children was targeted by stone throwing. No child should have to endure intimidation simply because they are taking part in a lawful cultural activity.

These incidents are not new, nor are they isolated. They form part of an unacceptable pattern of attacks on the unionist community in Londonderry which must not be ignored or downplayed.

Those responsible will not intimidate our community or deter people from celebrating their identity and heritage. They deserve the full force of the law.

I urge anyone who witnessed these attacks, or who has CCTV, dashcam or other footage, to come forward and assist the PSNI. Those responsible must be identified, arrested and brought before the courts.

As always I am here for anyone who needs me.”

💥⚠️NEW: Gordon Lyons to continue 'naming and shaming' those who 'cheat' the benefits system.

🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 speaking to Communities Minister @gordonlyons1.

It comes after he announced a £60 million reduction in benefit fraud last year.

His department says benefit fraud fell to £170.9 million in 2025, down from £233 million in 2024.

That represents an estimated 1.7% of total benefit expenditure, compared with 2.5% the previous year.

The minister says discussions are ongoing with the Treasury over the potential sharing of savings from tackling benefit fraud and error with the Executive.

He claims progress on that has stalled because of Sinn Féin.

Sinn Féin has been approached for comment.
