@EdLacey I’d concur that The Martian is a decent read if it’s hard SF you are looking for. Andy Weir’s engineering background comes through strongly, very techy. Other than that I’d recommend you try Stephen Baxter or Alastair Reynolds or some classics such as Clarke or Asimov 🚀
