Last year Durham colleagues have visited Boulby Underground Laboratory. Today Sean Paling from this lab comes to Durham and gave QLM a seminar where he introduced the interesting science projects in this facility in the North East of England, in Europe's deepest working mine!
The colleges in QLM visited Boulby underground laboratory located in Boulby mine, 1.1km below ground . It is one of the deepest science laboratories. Its unique environment allows researches requiring ultra-low background level.

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of our new chief experimental officer, Dr Dani Pizzey! Dani obtain her PhD in Durham. She will be a key role to support a wide range of research happening here in QLM.
Dr Thomas Wall from @RAL_Space_STFC came to Durham today and introduced his work on gas sensing using laser based spectroscopy. Rather than just doing experiments in the lab, his work allows measurements of the gas concentration in the field. It’s great to listen to his talk!
