Ron Hogg was awarded the CBE in the Queen's New Year Honours today. Acting PCVC Steve White, said “I have never known someone so universally liked and respected as Ron was by officers, staff, politicians and officials. The award of a CBE is a fitting tribute to his legacy.”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Hogg, Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner for County Durham and Darlington.

Ron died peacefully on Tuesday morning, having been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease earlier this year.

20,000 more police announced by @BorisJohnson great news. In 2009 @kitmalthouse took salute from 2000 #VPC to launch new VPC in London. 10yrs on #onebigvpcfamily now have over 17,500 young people across GB aged 8-18yrs 30% BAME with a huge waiting list! @MinipoliceR @HeddluBach

Durham Constabulary are appealing for the public to hand over unwanted guns during a two week firearms surrender, starting on Saturday, July 20.

It's an opportunity to dispose of weapons by handing them in at local police stations.
