The Devil is never described as a being with horns and hooves in the Bible. This was something Pope Gregory I literally just made up and stole from pagan depictions of gods like Pan. Before the Reformation, the Devil was seen mostly as a metaphor for humans’ tendency to sin and step out of God’s Will, hence Jesus calling Peter the Apostle Satan in the Book of Matthew. This is fitting because most of the time the Devil actually appears in the form of people. However, the modern Church, with the help of Hollywood, has since given the dark depictions more importance.
