Oh you read it once 20 years ago… sounds legit. I guess I’ll trash the last 30 years I’ve spent reading the Book of Mormon daily and believe you instead. 😂
When you’ve read the Book of Mormon over 50 times even at times with an eye of scrutiny, people who make claims like this just sound like flat-earthers. It is cute that you keep trying to persuade people though. Good luck.
@joshnaa2gez Agreed. I don’t understand why people want to label themselves this way. It is like a continual subconscious reinforcement of something so unnatural.
@nicoraytruth And it is all true. It literally happened. They speak from the dust to warn us. This is a covenant land and when we don’t keep God’s commandments, we lose His covenant protection.
I listened to an hour long podcast where he talked about this book. I thought it was good. I have had several family members and friends leave the church. I talk to all of them. Only one person didn’t want to talk about it. They all seemed to leave for different reasons and they all ended up in different places with very different beliefs.
@SteelBlaidd@AnneOfTheBooks It’s also right in the title page which was written by Moroni before he buried the plates.
“And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations”
@nicoraytruth You seem more in than most. But yeah, the belief in the Book of Mormon and that Joseph Smith is a modern prophet is critical to survive the fire that comes when you decide to be baptized.
Imagine believing the minuscule evidence that the Book of Mormon has faults when there is far more evidence to its truthfulness. Imagine believing that a young man who could barely write a letter to his wife, using proper spelling and grammar, could produce a book of scripture that has stood the test of time all these years, except for a very small minority, who are doing all they can to try to prove that it’s false that is why you are like a flat earth. You can continue to believe that Joseph Smith was the greatest common man of all time and that millions still follow his teachings and I will continue to believe that he is exactly what he said he is that the simplest explanation is the true explanation Joseph Smith saw God in Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith saw prophets who once lived on this earth he was given a book that they wrote to Translate for our time and he translated it by the gift and power of God and it’s here for us to hold them to read the study. I read it every day and when I read it, your data and arguments are just laughable to me.
@stackerco@RandomLDS I’m telling you that the proof is in the Book of Mormon itself. You can pull out all the data you want to try to support your case, but it’s silly when the truth is obvious and right in front of your face.
I have 3 experiences from my teen and early twenties that are anchors to my faith. I’ll share one.
I was in the MTC. Another missionary had shared that in a father’s blessing he received when starting his mission he was told that he was forgiven and cleansed from all sin.
I thought, “What a great thing to know as you are beginning your missionary service.”
So I started to pray regularly that God would forgive all my sins and let me know I am clean and worthy to be His missionary.
Then it happened. I had just shared my testimony with another missionary as we were practicing discussions with each other. Then we were asked to move our desks back into position. My desk didn’t need to be moved so I sat in my chair as the rest of class was in commotion. No one else knew what I experienced in that moment. A distinct thought formed in my mind and called me by name, “Dustin, you are clean. Your sins are forgiven you.”
I was so full of love and light at that moment that I can hardly describe it. It was like all the light from that room and from the window was flowing into my soul. It was the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost.
