#WorldWetlandsDay is always a welcome reason to dig through old photos from my MSc in boreal Alberta while I reminisce about marsh trudges alongside @girls_can. Side note - Dr. Rooney makes a great follow for cool wetland science and advocacy.
@kpagnucc Solidarity. No fewer than three times last week I ground coffee, ran coffee maker, poured clear, hot water from carafe into mug - grinds still sitting in the grinder.
“The creation of pools in the river, if the water stops flowing, can heat the water up to bath temperatures, which is great for hanging in the river, but deadly for any salmonid species.”
A timely reminder from @AlouetteRiverMS! https://t.co/kqKxonZSQS
Can anyone tell me what kind of animal creates tiny leaf capsules, fills them with liquid, and burys them in soil? Found these while pulling weeds in my garden this morning.
Wowza! This @HarvardBiz piece on #burnout is not about #Academia but it certainly applies. Unsustainable workload, perceived lack of control, lack of fairness: check! The kicker though: mismatched values and skills! I’m an ECOLOGIST with 20 y training. But my time is spent 1/2
@Sunci_A@kpagnucc It’s been a stark contrast seeing how ingrained the safety culture is at DFO. I’ve been retroactively examining some of the fieldwork I led in the past - and what I would do differently. Never had a true emergency but not certain I would’ve had the tools and prep to manage one.
.@SteveHa58322268 ’s post reminds me of pics I’ve seen of fallouts on boats. Check out these amazing pics from a 2016 fallout on tiny Machias Island (close enough, right?). (If you see something more amazing than this today, I insist you send it to me.) https://t.co/o4ykmCrvXS
@DrPlanktonguy @SJC_fishy Here in NS the decision to close the Rec fishery for the start of the season has been - at least partially - framed as a way to take pressure off emergency services. Early season cold water boating, ppl accessing remote loc’s, etc
