During the 2026 SONA which was in February, the President promised the employment of 10000 labour inspectors to deal with the employers that violate immigration and labour laws.

Over 6 months later, no labour inspector has been hired not even positions have been advertised.

I think this has genuinely left me speechless because you’re seeing the shift in real time. So many of our mothers, aunts, sisters and even grandmothers are consuming alcohol now when it wasn’t the case 20 years ago. Everything she said is factually true. Many black families always had a drunkard uncle or father but now there’s a drunkard aunt or mother as well.

You’d rarely see an alcohol brand using women as the primary focus of their marketing back in the day but over the years they’ve slowly incorporated them in their branding. Now we have entire beverages specifically targeted at women (Brutal Fruit, Ice Tropez, BNG, etc.). It’s also not a coincidence that black women are the primary focus. We live in a rainbow nation right? How come you don’t see many white, Indian or coloured women at the forefront of the marketing?

The black woman was the last line of defence in the black household and the white man has finally got his grip on her.
