Just so everyone knows, this rifle scope that the Feds claim Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk with, is mounted backwards. Rendering it completely useless.
Hmm...
Destroy a Flock camera = felony. Maybe prison and fine.
Do nothing = Watch the 1st and 4th Amendments disappear while my kids inherit an indefinite digital prison.
Decisions, decisions... 🤔
@travisakers they are pushed by LEO so I agree with you. They do not help solve crimes they are being used from every purpose as to stalking to using them to monitor any obscure law violation so the city/state can gain revenue. LEO is notoriously totalitarian.
@War_Radar2 yea knew that there was more to this and the conniving coward in the wh had done something to try and pull his evil arse out of the mess he put the world in.
🔻🔻Next Reduction in Services 🔻🔻
Columbus didn’t get into this mess by investing too much in public safety. It got here by cutting corners, reducing staffing, delaying equipment replacement, and asking fewer firefighters to do more.
Using the same thinking that created the problem isn’t going to solve it.
Which brings us to Assistant Chief Tracy Smith’s proposal to bid on three quint fire trucks.
A quint combines an engine and a ladder into one apparatus. A jack of all trades, but master of none. On paper, that sounds efficient. In reality, it’s a compromise.
A quint carries about 33% less water than a standard engine. If you’re fighting a fire without a nearby hydrant, running out of water becomes a real concern.
Because one truck is trying to do two jobs, it has less room for equipment than having a dedicated engine and a dedicated ladder. If the truck has to park away from the building to connect to a hydrant, the aerial ladder may not even be able to reach the fire. If it’s a rear-mounted aerial, positioning in apartment complexes or crowded parking lots becomes even more challenging.
Then there’s the biggest difference: people.
When an engine company and a ladder company respond together, you typically have eight firefighters arriving to perform different life-saving tasks at the same time—fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, ladder operations, water supply, and more.
Replace those two companies with one quint, and instead of eight first responders, you get four. The truck may perform multiple functions, but four firefighters still can’t do the work of eight simultaneously.
And here’s why it’s being considered.
The City saves about $1 million by purchasing one quint instead of buying both an engine and a ladder. The City can also reduce staffing.
The City saves money.
You receive fewer firefighters, fewer dedicated resources, and more operational limitations when minutes matter most.
There’s another tradeoff. If a dedicated engine goes down for repairs, you still have your ladder. If a dedicated ladder goes down, you still have your engine. But if a quint is out of service, you’ve now lost the capabilities of both until it’s repaired.
Quints have a place. They’re often used by small rural departments that simply can’t afford both an engine and a ladder.
That is not Columbus.
Ohio’s largest city shouldn’t be solving a public safety problem by asking one truck—and four firefighters—to do the work of two trucks and eight firefighters.
Cutting corners got us here. It won’t get us out.
