Just don't have Zero decide instantly that it's Copy X. You could also have Cyber Elf X in Z2&3 and have him redeem himself, which in turn helps rally the Guardians to your side against Weil. Idk food for thought, I still think the Zero series could work with X in Z1 over Copy X

I understand fundamentally why he exists. That being said the concept of a hero who fought in endless wars being left to rule indefinitely and slowly becoming a tyrant to maintain peace is a fascinating story concept and one I'd explore if I were to adapt the MMZ series to screen

Obviously there would be changes. Cyber Elf X (at least in Zero 1) wouldn't be feasible (although you could replace him with the Dr Light AI as a Cyber Elf like in Archie issue 55). As well as the climax of Zero 2. Heck you could still do the Copy X twist in Zero 3 as well-
