BERTHA BACK IN THE GULF - #Bertha has reemerged back in the Gulf of Mexico tonight and looks the best it has all day after an uneventful landfall in Louisiana. However, don’t sleep on this storm, Texas! Wind shear will keep Bertha in check but the Gulf is record warm which will help, and I think some strengthening is possible before a second landfall in Texas tomorrow. Stay safe! #txwx

#BREAKING: Tropical Storm #Bertha has made landfall in St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana. It will be a cool sight seeing the eye pass over the city with calm winds over the next couple of hours. The back side will have gustier winds out of the south — potentially up to 40 - 50 MPH. 🌀

A HOT MESS - Naked swirl #Bertha is approaching landfall in Louisiana this morning. Powerful wind shear has blown all of her storms south of the center into the Gulf of Mexico, which means this is going to be a big nothing if you live along the Gulf Coast today. It will be a very windy, but also very hot and sunny day. The heat index inland will be as hot as 120 degrees this afternoon! Stay in the air conditioning so you don’t get swamp booty! A BIG NOTHING - I’ve seen so much hype for this storm on social media over the past few days — all for what will likely be a big nothing. #Bertha will make landfall in Louisiana tomorrow, but will it be memorable? No. I told you a couple of days ago that the worst weather would stay out over the Gulf due to dry northerly wind shear, which is kryptonite for storms in the Gulf. Tomorrow will be a sunny and very windy day for most in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle as naked swirl Bertha makes landfall. The only exception will be for those right along the coast in Louisiana and by the mouth of the Mississippi. Don’t get me wrong there will be some impacts. Gusts 30-50 MPH especially near the coast will cause sporadic power outages. There will be storm surge impacts outside of the levee protection system and along the Gulf Coast from Mississippi to the FL Panhandle. However it will be unremarkable since the heavy rain will be out in the Gulf bothering the fishes. Bottom line is I don’t see this being a big deal. I’ve gotten tons of messages about vacations, flights, weddings, birthday parties ect and I wouldn’t cancel any plans after Wednesday. Stay safe.

Great reminder that bullish, strong model outputs showing worst-case scenarios doesn't always make them more accurate...especially before they even form a center. The GRAF model, used by dozens of TV stations across the country, whiffed hard on #Bertha early. Thankfully now, with a defined center, seems to be handling Bertha a little better.

Hurricane Hunters are finding #Bertha stronger this morning with near hurricane force winds at flight level. Winds at the surface are now close to 60 MPH. Fortunately increasing wind shear will decapitate Bertha as it approaches the Gulf Coast. #tropicalupdate 🌀
