Cooper DeJean attended a Class 1A school called Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove (OABCIG) High School with an enrollment of 306 students and grew up in Odebolt, Iowa which has less than 1,000 people. That pick 6 was for all of the small town kids in America. #SuperBowl
Tonight was special. So many Iowa Staters have grown up expecting the worst. And frankly, it's impossible to blame them after 100 years of consistent, painful losing.
When Matt Campbell got to Ames, he told me early on during a podcast in his office that his biggest challenge here was to change the mindset of the fan base. Expect to win. Expect good things to happen.
We joke about his "process," but that is really what it all comes down to. I realize this more in my personal life with age. If you do the right things every day, it compounds over time.
That's what his program, and this season is all about.
This team got buried after the Kansas game (I am guilty). With all of the injuries, it took a lot for them to get up off the deck.
They did.
I am happy for the fan base and the people at Iowa State.
Enjoy it, and go BYU!
