Disheartened to see Castletown Parklands is under threat from housing developers. they have already started putting in a car park beside the River Liffey and placed 'land poisoned' signs beside pollinator friend zones. 1/2
Campaigners have held a wake on the shores of Lough Neagh to mourn what they say is the death of the largest freshwater lake in Ireland and the UK. The lough is heavily polluted with toxic blue-green algae | https://t.co/fFnUoDFBRw

Castletown isn't just any green space; it holds immense cultural, historical, and environmental significance for our community. Protesters are currently on-site, but they need more support! We must protect our cultural, historical, and environmental heritage.2/2

Great research on display at the 13th International Passive Sampling Workshop and Symposium. I am delighted to share our projects progress into using @chemcatcher passive samplers for pharmaceutical detection in surface waters.
@willmurphy29@InlandFisherIE@CathMurphyTD@EcofactEcology Sadly the damage is done, and there isn't much we can do to resolve the situation. It will take another year or 2 at a minimum to begin to recover. I haven't heard anything further on the case against the polluter, but as soon as I hear anything, I'll make another update post.
The WHO has estimated that antimicrobial resistance could cause 10 million deaths each year by 2050. The presence of antibiotics in wastewater and rivers will only increase our environmental exposure to resistant bacteria.

I hope more people get out and look at our rivers, you'd be supprised how much life you see. Of course only if the rivers water quality is suitable for life.

Here are the results I received from the lab I sent the water sample to. I'll have a look at EQS (environmental quality standards) guidelines as soon as I have time. In the meantime I'm sending it out for whomever is interested and would like to comment. #ryeriverpollution
This would be one of the worst outcomes which I can think of for the Rye River pollution. A farmer in County Monaghan Farmer who polluted a river with silage effluent got a € 400 fine + legal fees. How can we protect our rivers if the fines are so low. https://t.co/9053X7U5gm
Yesterday was a great day for river water sampling. These samples will go on to help build a profile on the global presence of pharmaceuticals in rivers. See here for more ⬇️

I am so excited to share this with everyone...I am published in the @IrishTimes today! It felt amazing to share about current research and my journey to Ireland to pursue PhD at @DCUChemistry 🎉
