Hi! I'm proud to be one of the co-leads of the @EADTeachers . I teach students in Allentown, Pennsylvania and am proud to advocate for Civic Education as the teacher rep to the @EADRoadmap steering committee. I'm a "yes!" to Pumpkin Spice Latte #sschat@SSChatNetwork .

A8: We look forward to hearing the stories from K-12 educators about their experiences with bridging their classrooms and school communities. #engsschat#NWOC
A7: I have loved hearing the ideas and strategies to encourage Ss to practice listening. So many powerful ideas! I cannot wait to reread the archives. #engsschat
A7. Overall, I think the best takeaway is a feeling of confirmation that we are focusing on the right things in education (listening and understanding different perspectives). #engsschat#ListenFirst
A6 @CivicOlympics has asyncronous microcredentials on Current and Controversial Issue DIscussions open to all https://t.co/fbDadA1BoE #ListenFirst#engsschat
I love this resource from @peardeck. It gives Ss a non-threatening way to start difficult conversations, which can then spark more dialogue in the classrooms. https://t.co/60wZcbgDil

A6 The Deliberation Resources from @streetlaw are great. They provide norm building guides, SEL connections and great background readings https://t.co/LGVLuDel2L #ListenFirst#engsschat
A6 A resource from us is the Civic Summer Institute for Learning and Teaching- we'll be talking contemporary debates! https://t.co/qHpLHgrAET We will host civics teachers at a one-week, expenses-paid Institute at @SchoodicInst campus in Acadia #ListenFirst#engsschat
A6 I'm running a pilot through Teach Different to help teachers learn the art and science of conversations. Here is a link to learn more and apply (there's no cost): https://t.co/69wrfDDEsb #engsschat#ListenFirst
A6: How about a little light and on-demand PD! @iCivics has Your Roadmap to Teaching Controversial Issues, a free and breezy resource: https://t.co/1gFZevKUa7 #engsschat
Q6 Theme #7 of the @EADRoadmap is Contemporary Debates and Possibilities. What is one resource you would share with a teacher who is nervous about facilitating student conversations that tackle contemporary debates and possibilities? #ListenFirst#engsschat
A5 civic stories (past & present) that give students "windows & mirrors" to see how people who may be like them or different from them engaged civically #engsschat https://t.co/7U4yDS3kus ... people are complex- students won't agree with everything they did, but can analyze
A5: I do a unit on oral interpretation in which Ss read, analyze, and perform a speech written by another person. They take on stories that are not their own to amplify the voices of others. It's a powerful way to walk in someone else's shoes. #engsschat
@IL_CivicsHub@EADRoadmap A5 - I liked to ask students to find ways to identify less visible perspectives. We often began by discussing the Blind Men and the Elephant. #engsschat
