What is the difference between probiotics and live biotherapeutic products (LBPs)?

#Probiotics:
✅Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a ✅health benefit on the host.

Live Biotherapeutic Products (#LBPs):
A biological product that:
(1) contains live organisms
(2) ✅is applicable to the prevention, treatment, or cure of a disease or condition of human beings
(3) is not a vaccine.

At Med #GrandRounds today @nyugrossman, Marco J. Bruno, MD, PhD of @ErasmusMC gave an outstanding talk on Acute Pancreatitis, highlighting evolving trends and key clinical trial findings that have shaped step-up approaches to managing infected pancreatic necrosis.

Key Takeaways:
▶️Incidence of acute pancreatitis has risen steadily since the 1990s.
▶️Over 50% of cases are biliary in origin and carry a significant healthcare burden.
▶️A step-up approach is superior to open necrosectomy for infected necrosis.
▶️Endoscopic step-up outperforms surgical step-up in high-risk patients.
▶️Delayed catheter drainage may reduce the need for procedures without increasing severe outcomes.
