Started with carbon markets. Ended up questioning the paperwork behind everything.
A few months ago, I shared @EAXGlobal , an idea for connecting environmental markets. As we dug deeper, one problem kept following us: everyone was relying on documents that the next person simply had to trust.
Then we looked beyond environmental markets. Same problem. Different paperwork. Hospital invoices. Insurance claims. Lab reports. Academic certificates. Documents moving between organisations, carrying money and decisions with them.
Meanwhile, AI can change a name, a figure or a result in seconds. A convincing PDF is getting easier to make.
So we changed direction. We’re building #Kweli. The name means “truth” in Swahili.
The idea is straightforward: an organisation registers the document it issues. Whoever receives it can check that it came from that issuer and hasn’t been altered. Scan the QR. Check the proof. Get on with the decision.
Because before a bank lends, an insurer pays or an AI reads a report, someone should be able to answer: is this the document they actually issued?
That’s the question we’re building around. Still early. But this is where we’re headed.

A lab checks its results before issuing a report. But once that PDF is forwarded, the lab can’t control what happens to it.
Kweli lets the next person check whether the file they received is the exact one the lab issued.

Kenya already lets motorists scan a QR code to check their insurance cover.
With Kweli, the same idea can extend to garage invoices and assessor reports: scan the QR, verify the issuer and confirm the document has not changed.

This is exactly why we built #Kweli .
A university has had to write a formal letter confirming whether an academic certificate attributed to it is genuine.
Think about that process for a second.
Someone presents a certificate.
A third party questions it.
They contact the university.
Someone at the university searches historical records.
A registrar writes and signs a letter confirming whether the qualification is genuine.
And only then does everyone have an answer.
In 2026, why should verification still work like this?
This isn't really a QR-code problem. It isn't a blockchain problem either.
It's an issuer problem.
The university already knows what it issued.
With Kweli, the issuer registers that credential when it is created. From that point onwards, an employer, regulator, bank, government agency or other authorised party can independently check whether the document presented to them matches what the university actually issued.
No emails back and forth.
No phone calls to the registrar.
No waiting for a verification letter years later.
And importantly, Kweli doesn't need to store the underlying certificate. We create a cryptographic fingerprint of the original document and use that as part of the proof.
The bigger point is that this goes far beyond university certificates.
Insurance documents. Laboratory reports. Inspection certificates. Trade documents. Professional credentials.
Wherever somebody makes a decision based on a document, there should be a simple question:
Did the organisation named on this document actually issue it — and is this the same document they issued?
That's the problem we're solving at Kweli, a product of @EAXGlobal.
Built in Kenya for a problem that exists everywhere.

The fake garage estimate had polished letterhead, three stamps and a blue-ink signature. The genuine one was badly formatted and plain. Guess which one everyone trusted first?
The lie had simply dressed better than the truth.
My latest #Kweli fable:

I became a first-time tech founder at 47.
From blockchain and crypto to building #Kweli, using AI as a one-man band, fundraising, rejection and starting again.
This isn’t a story from the finish line. It’s from somewhere in the middle.

KES 48,000 hospital bill. Two line items and the total get changed. Now it's KES 84,000.
Patient real. Hospital real. Treatment happened. Every check passes.
Confirming a visit happened ≠ confirming the bill hasn't changed.

A medical bill is a spreadsheet with a letterhead. Change 3 numbers, print it on the right paper, and most claims never notice.
AI can flag odd charges but not whether the document is even real. First check: authentic and unaltered,or not. That's what we're building at Kweli.
Kenya just put 30M+ credentials on-chain 👏 Congrats @avax + @lavenderesther1
KNEC proves KNEC certs. But invoices, lab reports, bank statements come from thousands of private issuers with no portal.
That gap is what we're building @eaxglobal for.

Most organisations don't verify documents. They collect them.
The questions that actually matter are:
• Who issued it?
• Has it been altered?
• Is it still valid?
Document trust isn't one question. It's three.

Blockchain isn't the product.
Trust is.
I wrote about why I think blockchain's biggest success will be the day nobody talks about it anymore.

What if the biggest risk isn't fake documents...
...it's not knowing whether you're looking at the original?
#AI is making forgery effortless.

Spent the last 3 days building our new website with AI.
Not "AI did everything"—more like having an engineer who never sleeps. We built, broke, rebuilt, pushed code, fixed deployment issues and ended up with something I'm really proud of.

@sridharfyi Honestly, I wouldn't spend it building more software. Our MVP is ready. I'd use the $25k to get #Kweli into the hands of our first design partners in the insurance industry, onboard customers, and turn pilots into paying contracts.
New post: "Claims Leakage: The Silent Margin Killer"
Kenya's insurance regulator reported fraud cases nearly tripling in one quarter, year over year.

Every business relies on documents.
Invoices.
Certificates.
Medical reports.
Claims.
Contracts.
Yet most organisations still verify them with phone calls, emails and crossed fingers.
We think there's a better way.
