A Fort Worth Police Department Crime Response Unit officer was shot in the eye while responding to a burglary call on April 28.
CRU officers are unarmed and respond to scenes to collect evidence and document reports. The officer, a former U.S. Marine who served 30 years and received a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq, had recently joined the unit in February.
A reminder of the risks first responders face in every role, armed or unarmed, while serving their community.
