To wrap up this evening’s meeting, we heard loads of testimony and public commentary, and lots on the new police headquarters. As always, thanks for tuning in. Make sure to catch my recap.
I’m here at the Lawrence City Hall live-tweeting the city commission meeting. First on the agenda: Proclaiming Sunday, March 17, 2019 as the Thirty-Second Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
City Commissioner Leslie Soden says the board is taking away participatory budgeting, which “feels wrong.”
“I could talk about this all night,” she said. “But I’m not going to.”
Lot’s of comments on the cold. Ellen Johnson requests 24-hour animal control coverage due to roaming animals dying from the cold at night.
“We need to have animal control ready to get (animals) to the shelter at all times,” she said.
The design for the new police headquarters was made to keep all of the staff under one roof and to “breed collaboration and excitement.” Total budget: $18.5 million.
