Morning Sojourner, at times our sense of worth is under pressure and our identity is questioned. Where we feel unseen and unheard, and experience deep humiliation: both on the outside and on the inside. Jesus knows that place.

“People passing by shook their heads and hurled insults at Jesus: “Aha! You were going to tear down the Temple and build it back up in three days! Now come down from the cross and save yourself!” Mark 15:29-30 GNT

It keeps believing for a better day. You may have waited for an answer for a long time, wondering if God hears you. You are not alone. Do you know that even if God feels distant He’s present in the silence. I will not stop calling!

Morning Sojourner, at times you may feel as if everyone is talking about your struggles and wondering if walking with God benefits you at all. Jesus felt abandoned on the cross. Faith does not stop crying out, even if there is no answer. It holds fast, even if it is not certain.

“All who see me make fun of me; they stick out their tongues and shake their heads. “You relied on the Lord,” they say. “Why doesn't he save you? If the Lord likes you, why doesn't he help you?” Psalm 22:7-8 GNT

Enemies can climb or even destroy walls while we’re busy celebrating victory. But an enemy is easily turned back from a wall by guards. Are you still celebrating the wall instead of watching and praying? I will watch and pray!

Morning Sojourner, the rebuilding work was a huge success. Yet, the walls would not guard themselves, so diligent watchmen were appointed. In our lives, often a victory is won and later lost because of lack of guard.

“I said to them, “Do not leave the gates open during the hottest part of the day. And even while the gatekeepers are on duty, have them shut and bar the doors. Appoint the residents of Jerusalem to act as guards, everyone on a regular watch.” Neh. 7:3 NLT

Satan persuades us into an easy, compromising, cross-free religion governed by fear and opinions of men. But should a Christian in your position run away from God’s work? I will not bow to fear!

Morning Sojourner, this false prophet offered Nehemiah refuge in the temple. But Nehemiah discerned that he was lying and creating fear to cause him to disobey God. Only priests were allowed in the temple; Nehemiah wasn’t one.

“…, “Let us meet together inside the Temple of God and bolt the doors shut. Your enemies are coming to kill you tonight.” But I replied, “Should someone in my position run from danger? Should someone in my position enter the Temple to save his life? No, I won’t do it!” Neh. 6:10

Nehemiah did not waste time trying to prove Sanballat wrong. Do you know that you can’t satisfy Sanballats with facts, explanations, and evidence? I won’t give in to their demands!

Morning Sojourner, Sanballat made a plain threat. But Nehemiah wouldn’t be deceived into coming to this meeting because he had discernment. If people can’t get your eyes off God’s work they will use threats and slander against you.

“He also reports that you have appointed prophets in Jerusalem to proclaim about you, ‘Look! There is a king in Judah!’ “You can be very sure that this report will get back to the king, so I suggest that you come and talk it over with me.” Neh. 6:7 NLT

Nehemiah worked hard and trusted God greatly, but his enemies accused him of plotting a rebellion. Do you know that the enemy of your soul knows which accusation will hurt you most? I will not be distracted!

Morning Sojourner, vague accusations may sound like the truth. Vague words can easily give the wrong impression. But even if 1000 people said it, it would not make a lie true. A popular lie is dangerous, but being popular doesn’t make it truer.

“…“There is a rumor among the surrounding nations, and Geshem tells me it is true, that you and the Jews are planning to rebel and that is why you are building the wall. According to his reports, you plan to be their king.” Neh. 6:5-6 NLT

Satan knows how to keep us busy with urgent but unimportant activities. But Nehemiah discerned that their intentions were wrong. Are you able to discern between the important and the disruptive? Help me Lord!

Morning Sojourner, satan never stops trying. He will try to stop the work at the start, midway and at the final stage. These enemies hurriedly planned on disrupting the finishing touches by inviting Nehemiah to a seemingly urgent and important meeting.
