Great article.
Qs: why do we exclude the automatic brain from the self? Are our experiences and environments not inherently part of who we “are?”
Thought: at times, our aware mind can and does overrule our automatic brain - certainly this is another component of “free will.”
What is free will, if our brains launch our actions before we're aware of them? A different look at the question in @BBC@ScienceFocus. https://t.co/2jz0zfoI7f
Interpretations of Baby It’s Cold Outside:
Flirty winter date
Or
She’s trying to leave, he’s coercing her into staying
Or
She wants to stay, but has the burden of expectations about her behavior from her “maiden aunt,” mother, and father
What do you think?

We don’t talk about it this way (yet), but could narcissism be yet another spectrum disorder?
Further, will all mental illnesses eventually be considered on spectrums?

We must afford others the grace to make mistakes, grow, change, and do better than they have before.
We too will make mistakes and need the space to grow; we then will hope for the same grace in return.

Laziness is not a trait.
Laziness is a choice: the choice not to do the things you don’t really feel like doing.
The more you choose to be lazy, the lazier you will be.
The more you choose to do, the more you will do.

The test of integrity isn't how often you shift your stance. It’s why you change your mind.
Revising your words to gain approval is flip-flopping. Rethinking your views based on new facts is learning.
Integrity isn't fidelity to your beliefs. It's fidelity to seeking the truth.
MIT polled it's faculty:
-83% say their and their colleagues' voices are increasingly in jeopardy
- 60% feel their and their colleagues' voices are constrained on an everyday basis at MIT

@DavidKrae There is tons of evidence (Bloom, Rand, Greene, Nowak, etc.) that young humans on the whole are inherently “good,” where “good” means pro-social (cooperative, fair, kind, compassionate), even selfless. We are a social species, being pro-social is largely evolutionarily adaptive.
@McCormickProf “The problem wasn’t Abbot’s political opinions, Rosenheim said. Rather, it’s the fact that he has so openly expressed them.”
So you’re saying “don’t ask, don’t tell,” right, Rosenheim?
Because espousing beliefs without debate is what academia is all about, right?
It’s so much easier to just believe the loudest majority.
I wish I could do that. Then I wouldn’t have to be worried about things like evidence, logic, or truth.
Being loud and popular has zero relationship with being correct or true, unfortunately.

@FreeBlckThought 2/2 As medical professionals, we must continue to ask and answer important, relevant questions: is there something biologically different about c-sections for black mothers compared to other races (eg., diff. health markers)? Maybe not, but no one (that I’ve seen) is even asking.
@FreeBlckThought I’ve seen similar conclusions drawn about racial disparities in c-section recoveries, assuming biased medical staff is the answer. But chalking important issues up to racism without further scrutiny could mean continued disparity because the real issues aren’t being solved. 1/2
@FreeBlckThought E.g., Research on death rates at cancer hospitals as compared to general hospitals is alarming, except for the fact that cancer hospitals get the most terminally ill patients because other hospitals aren’t equipped to help them (they have different expertise, equipment, etc.).
@LearnSmerup@simonsinek Interesting. Perhaps it is better to say “no good leaders are pessimists,” because once you think a future can be made bright, you are inherently not a pessimist. Thoughts?
@tucksbryant@simonsinek Interesting idea. IMO pessimism is a state where you think something is bad and can’t be fixed. If you think you can intervene and fix something bad, then you are already not a pessimist!
When you see things as burdens instead of gifts or opportunities, they will be burdens.
When you forget to be grateful and savor precious moments, they will be lost.
Life is a beautiful gift or it is a heavy burden, and it’s your choice.
