Our combined rankings, in our eyes, are the best column to focus on. Matt watches these players more than I, and I tend to dig more on stats/analytics. We like what we have when we combine those.

@easternrefugee Rich, I think you may have blinders on when it comes to Lavoie. That was a strong showing. He was heavy on pucks all game, battled down low and showcased his skill with that bomb on the PP

I’ll be watching the Podkolzin - Hamblin - Savoie closely. All three fighting for a spot. Also excited to get a look at Ty Emberson

I mentioned him after the first period, but I also want to highlight William Nicholl again. His IQ and positioning are advanced for his age. He’s undersized, but he battles for pucks and can make plays off contact. Flashed some skill at times as well

Oilers win 3-2 in OT

Lavoie and Philp were my standouts. They both played a heavy, grinding game. That’s what we need to see from both

In terms of the forwards battling for roster spots, this is how I’d order their performances tonight:

Grimes is a two-way, puck moving defenseman. He’s skilled and elusive, using his mobility and puck skills to evade pressure and advance the puck. He tried to do too much at times, but I liked his combination skating and creativity
