As always, friend and colleague @lorrainelamchop offers incredibly astute and concise context for what is happening on the ground in #encampments and how this diverges from @cityoftoronto's narrative. Thank you, Lorr! 🙏🏻
If you I've seen any of the footage documenting the police violence at Lamport Stadium, please come out to support us at City Hall today at noon. I will speaking along with others who have lived experience being homeless, as well as several street health organizations.
Written by myself & @NaheedD: We are calling on @cityoftoronto to end the violent, failure of an approach to #encampments, which have resulted in no one being housed, & just 40% of residents going into shelters. We have a better way: #APathForward. https://t.co/AwreH4m707

"I think this is a big statement to #Indigenous communities and to all of #TurtleIsland ... these wins are attainable." #LandBackLane
White settlers documenting their #CancelCanadaDay for social media is one thing. White politicians posting only the parts of the day where they wear orange & expressing solidarity but not the parts where they celebrate w/ a bunch of other white settlers is next level. #BEY
My city councillor stands in solidarity with Indigenous people in the morning, then celebrates the settler state at the Legion in the afternoon. What a phenomenal representative. So versatile! How does he do it?
“East Enders Against Racism (EEAR), which has been amplifying the call by Idle No More to #CancelCanadaDay…However, they did say moving this needle didn’t happen without some “very tense” and harmful discussions and debates.” via @JoannaLavoie HT @EEAgainstRacism
@EEAgainstRacism Looks like celebrations are still taking place at legions. Apparently @BradMBradford stopped by to show support right after he marched to support residential school survivors. Wander if he changed from orange to red to attend this.
Our call was heard, it seems. The website has been updated to encourage a more reflective than celebratory event. This was after some very defensive conversations w/ at least 1 committee member. We encourage @eastendcanday to apologize & undo the harm created in the community.
I wrote this essay from a broken place mostly for myself (and @balkissoon). I'm extremely humbled by the response, especially from so many Indigenous People.

read this right now from one of the two Fact Check content writers who repeatedly debunk and analyze city’s statements.
don’t let the City’s PR fool you. they’re often lies. starting with the number of fires they claim happen in encampments…
