🇺🇦 is an integral part of 🇪🇺. Both 🇺🇦 and 🇪🇺 must take credible steps toward 🇺🇦’s full 🇪🇺 membership. Today in Kadriorg, I assured Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko that 🇪🇪 supports opening all 🇪🇺 accession negotiation clusters with 🇺🇦 as soon as possible, ideally this summer.
We are strengthening defense cooperation with Estonia 🇪🇪🇺🇦
In Tallinn, we met with President @AlarKaris, President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar, and Prime Minister @KristenMichalPM.
We agreed to strengthen defense cooperation, specifically in the area of unmanned aerial systems, and to maintain a continuous exchange of experience in responding to security challenges.
Estonia continues to support Ukraine’s energy sector. Its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has already exceeded €2.6 million. At the same time, Ukraine is ready to share its own experience in energy decentralization and system management under difficult conditions.
Estonia is a reliable ally on our path to EU membership. I thanked them for supporting the EU loan for Ukraine. We also discussed further strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia, including work on the 21st sanctions package and efforts to counter the shadow fleet.
We paid special attention to the Bring Kids Back UA initiative and the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia. I am grateful to Estonia for supporting these efforts.
Estonia became the first country whose parliament ratified the agreement establishing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. In parallel, we are working to create a compensation mechanism.
Thank you for your participation in Ukraine’s recovery and for the active projects already underway in the Zhytomyr region. Ahead of us is the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, where we will continue expanding our cooperation further.

Russia yesterday launched a strike on Ukraine and efforts to deal with the aftermath continue in Kyiv. 🇺🇦As of now, 87 people are reported to have been injured, including 3 children. In total, around 300 sites across Kyiv were damaged.
Spent another horrible night in shelter in Kyiv. Agressor russia attacked the capital hardest. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded.
russia is a terrorist state.
Soon the russian war criminals will face the Tribunal. 🇪🇪Estonia will do all to make it happen.
Putin wanted to show “strength” but only confirmed his weakness.
Overnight, Russia carried out one of the largest terrorist attacks on Kyiv with around 600 drones, many dozens of ballistic, air-ballistic, and cruise missiles, and a dummy IRBM.
Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions were also under attack.
As of now, at least two civilian people have been reported killed and many dozens injured. These numbers may grow. Many residential buildings have been damaged.
Unable to achieve any results on the battlefield, Putin turns to terror against civilians.
This strike was probably meant to demonstrate “strength” to the domestic audience, but instead it only confirms Putin’s weakness. Even Russians see that he is a loser.
His “special operation” is not achieving any results. Losses are enormous, but there is not a single achieved goal. Except that there are no safe places in Russia any more, as Ukraine ramps up its special long-range sanctions.
To our allies, I want to say this: it is time to double down, not back down, in supporting Ukraine and increasing pressure on the Russian regime.
We call for additional defense capabilities, including to protect our sky; investment in our defense industry; increased pressure on Russia, including entry ban for Russian combatants, full use of frozen assets; strong political decisions with regard to Ukraine’s EU accession and other steps.
The world has the leverage. It needs to be used right — to show Moscow that such strikes will not bring any results — and force Russia to end this war.
